The Pokemon TCG Pocket developers have revealed changes that will be coming to the game’s Trading feature with the aim of making it more accessible and enjoyable to use.
On March 14, 2025, Pokemon TCG Pocket devs shared an update about the Trading system, giving players a look at how they aim to improve it. The current feature received a lot of backlash when it was first implemented on January 29, 2025, with many fans calling out the “unfair” requirements needed to swap their cards with others.
The main problem stems from the fact that common cards cannot be exchanged for Trade Tokens, and players are restricted from freely exchanging whichever card they want. For many collectors, this makes the act of trading rare ex cards incredibly difficult.
TCG Pocket devs announced that they had received a “large number of comments” regarding Trading, thanking players for their feedback before providing context for the system’s various restrictions. However, over a month later, they have now revealed how they aim to improve the feature.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Trading changes
Posting on X, the devs revealed that “Trade tokens will be completely removed, and players will no longer need to exchange cards to obtain the currency required for trading.”
Instead, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity will now require Shinedust. This currency is currently used to give Flairs to your Pokemon cards, which gives them a unique look.
“We are looking into increasing the amount [of Shinedust] offered since it will also be needed for trading. Altogether, this change should allow you to trade more cards than you could before this update,” the devs explained.
Additionally, Trade Tokens you currently own can be converted to Shinedust when the item is removed from the game. There are also no changes in how one-diamond and two-diamond rarity cards are traded.
The devs also outlined that a new wishlist-style feature will be added to allow Trainers to share cards they’re interested in trading for via the in-game trading function. This will make sniping missing cards much easier.
“In addition to the changes above, we are also looking into how to accommodate cards that are currently unavailable for trades, such as promo cards and two-star rarity cards. Keep an eye out for more information about this topic in the future.”
The Pokemon TCG Pocket Trading system changes will be implemented by the end of Autumn 2025.
