Pokemon Go players erupt over “greedy” Unova Tour Pass price and “worthless” rewards

Pokemon Go’s deluxe Unova Tour Pass has been slammed for being too expensive and lacking rewards worth the pricetag.
The Pokemon Go Unova Tour offers plenty of new rewards, counters and items for trainers to unlock. While this new event offers a free battle pass system for players to dive into, there is also a deluxe option.
This premium pass includes even more surprises but at an added cost. The Deluxe Tour Pass is priced at USD $14.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), wherein trainers have access to better rewards and will progress through the pass much faster.
Moreover, those who purchase the deluxe edition will immediately encounter Victini, a rare psychic-fire Mythical Pokemon found in the game.
Pokemon Go Unova deluxe Tour Pass price called out
Now that the Unova event is underway, trainers have taken to social media to express their thoughts. Many are fuming over the devs’ “greedy” move to make the deluxe Tour Pass so “expensive.”
In a Reddit thread, trainers argued that this new offering is the Pokemon Go equivalent of a “battle pass,” comparing it to Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, and other multiplayer shooters.
In particular, players took issue with the USD $14.99 pricetag attached to the Unova deluxe Tour Pass.
“As much as I’d like to do it, it’s not good for 15 dollars. Outside of Victini, there’s next to nothing worth even attempting to play for,” commented one Reddit user.
To add insult to injury, trainers have also discovered that the Tour Pass has capped progress to a certain level each day, meaning players can’t grind through it at their own pace but will be capped from leveling up further until each new day.
When one Pokemon Go user questioned why they were stuck at level 6 and could not progress anymore, another revealed that they were limited to six level increases each day “until the weekend, when you can do as many as possible.”
Consequently, players will be capped at level 30 until the last two days of the event, when they will complete an additional 70 levels. Players slammed this decision as being “actually f***ing crazy” and “just pain f***ing insane.”
I wish that were a little clearer, especially because this is the first time that we’ve had something like this,” replied another Redditor.
The Pokemon Go Unova Tour Pass began on February 24 and will run until March 2, 2025.
