Pokemon Go Gigantamax Snorlax Max Battle Guide – Weaknesses & best counters

Pokemon Go keeps adding Gigantamax creatures to its – still short – list, and now it’s the turn of the iconic Snorlax, who will debut its enormous variation with a special Max Battle Day.
Since the Max Out Season introduced Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon to Niantic’s game, these enormous creatures have continued to debut regularly.
While it’s more common to see the arrival of new Dynamax Pokemon, the impressive Gigantamax forms seem to be appearing once every other month, so far.
After the arrival of the Gigantamax Kanto starters, Lapras, and Kingler, now it’s the turn of the sleepyhead, Gigantamax Snorlax.
Gigantamax Snorlax weaknesses in Pokemon Go
As a pure Normal-type Pokemon, Gigantamax Snorlax is only weak against Fighting-type moves. While it may seem like players won’t have many choices to pick from, there are a few outstanding creatures that will get the job done.
Keep in mind that Gigantamax Snorlax is resistant against Ghost-type attacks, so no matter what, avoid using any Ghost-type moves or taking any Ghost-type creatures to the battle.
Remember that only fellow Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokemon are eligible in Max Battles.
Gigantamax Snorlax best counters
Even though Dynamax and Gigantamax creatures are still very new to the game, there are a few good Fighting-type choices that can take G-Max Snorlax down.
The absolute best choices are Dynamax Machamp, Passimian, and Falinks, as they will be able to target Gigantamax Snorlax’s only weakness.
If you’re missing a Fighting-type creature, remember that during the Max Battle Raid Day, a free Timed Research will be available, and the reward for getting through all of it is an encounter with Dynamax Machop. You can evolve Dynamax Machop to Machamp and then challenge the Kanto sleeper.
Additionally, you’ll want to keep a few Gigantamax choices nearby, as they will deal way more damage than their Dynamax counterparts.
How to get Gigantamax Snorlax in Pokemon Go
Gigantamax Snorlax will debut during its Max Battle Day, which will happen on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time. During that time, G-Max Snorlax will appear as a 6-Star Max Battle boss.
Keep in mind that, unlike regular Raids, Max Battles are in-person-only encounters, which means Remote Raid Passes cannot be used. Plus, rather than spawning in standard Gyms, Gigantamax and Dynamax battles are confined to Power Spots.
To join a Gigantamax battle, players must pay 800 Max Particles, which can be collected from visiting such Power Spots daily. If you fail to defeat the Max Battle boss, the MPs will be returned so you can try again.
It’s worth noting that these special creatures cannot be caught in their gigantic forms, so after defeating Gigantamax Snorlax, trainers will have the chance to try and catch a regular Snorlax with the Gigantamax ability.
Gigantamax Snorlax CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Gigantamax Snorlax has during a Max battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it after defeating it. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.
Max Battle Raid boss CP | TBD |

Snorlax max CP (Level 50) | 3647 |

Can Gigantamax Snorlax be Shiny?
Yes, Gigantamax Snorlax can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as Niantic announced this special variation will debut on the very same day the Pokemon does.

Shiny hunters might feel a little disappointed, as the Shiny Gigantamax Snorlax color scheme is not that different.
The key differences between regular and Shiny are the darker blue tone of its body and how the tree on the top of its belly changes from green to orange, as if the foliage changed from summer to autumn.
Remember that the odds of coming across a Shiny Pokemon are very low, and there’s no special method to secure an encounter. All players can do to increase their chances is to take on as many Max Battles as they can.
