Pokemon Go Dynamax Sableye Raid guide – Weaknesses & best counters

The creepy-looking Sableye is getting its Dynamax form in Pokemon Go, so those going after the dual Dark/Ghost-type creature from the Hoenn region should know its weaknesses and best counters.

Known as the Darkness Pokemon, the weird-looking humanoid Sableye was introduced to the franchise a long time ago in Gen 3’s Hoenn region and has been part of Niantic’s game since 2017.

While it doesn’t evolve from or to anything, Sableye has a very popular Mega Evolution, and now it’s getting its Dynamax form in Pokemon Go. So, learn Sableye’s weaknesses to take it down fast during its time as the Max Monday headliner.

Dynamax Sableye weaknesses in Pokemon Go

Sableye and its Dynamax form are dual Dark/Ghost-type Pokemon, which means they are only weak against Fairy-type attacks.

While this does make choosing a team fairly simple – as you only have one type to focus on – it might be a struggle as no Fairy-type Dynamax or Gigantamax creatures are available in the game yet.

On the other hand, tiny Sableye is resistant to Fighting, Poison, Normal, and Psychic-type moves, so avoid using those as they won’t deal much damage at all.

Dynamax Sableye best counters

Dynamax and Gigantamax creatures are still very new to the game, and while none of the available enormous Pokemon boast the Fairy-type, there are a few good choices that can take Dynamax Sableye down.

The absolute best choices are Dynamax Metragross for high Steel-type damage, Gigantamax Gengar for strong Ghost-type moves, and Gigantamax Charizard for high DPS.

Even though none of them can target Sableye’s weakness directly, you’ll want to prioritize Pokemon that are not resisted by Sableye and Gigantamax forms, as they will deal way more damage than their Dynamax counterparts.

How to get Sableye in Pokemon Go

As of today, there are a few ways trainers can get a Sableye in Pokemon Go:

  • As a wild encounter
  • As a 3-Star Max Battle boss (increased spawns during its time as the May 19 Max Monday headliner)

Previously, players could also get a regular Sableye from 5km, 7km, and 10km Eggs, as a reward from Special/Timed Research tasks, as a Tier 1 Raid boss, and even rescue Shadow Sableye from Team Go Rocket Grunts or Sierra.

Remember that starting May 19, 2025, players are no longer required to physically go to a Power Spot, as they can join Max Battles remotely using Remote Raid Passes.

To join Dynamax Sableye’s battle, players must pay 400 Max Particles, which can be collected from visiting such Power Spots daily. If you fail to defeat the Max Battle boss, the MPs will be returned so you can try again.

It’s worth noting that these special creatures cannot be caught in their gigantic forms, so after defeating Dynamax Sableye, trainers will have the chance to try and catch a regular Sableye with the Dynamax ability.

Dynamax Sableye CP in Pokemon Go

As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Dynamax Sableye has during a Max battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it after defeating it. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.

Dynamax Sableye stats & moves

As a dual Dark/Ghost-type, Sableye has the following stats:

ATTACK DEFENSE STAMINA CP

Fast Moves

  • Shadow Claw (Ghost/STAB)
  • Feint Attack (Dark/STAB)

Charged Moves

  • Power Gem (Rock)
  • Shadow Sneak (Ghost/STAB)
  • Dazzling Gleam (Fairy)
  • Foul Play (Dark/STAB)

Can Dynamax Sableye be Shiny?

Yes, Dynamax Sableye can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as Niantic announced this special variation will debut on the very same day the Pokemon does.

Shiny hunters will be able to spot Shiny Dynamax Sableye in a matter of seconds as its usual deep purple body changes to bright yellow, while the gems in its eyes switch from light blue to transparent, and the one on its chest goes from red to green.

However, it’s good to remind players that the odds of coming across a Shiny Pokemon are very low, and there’s no special method to secure an encounter. All players can do to increase their chances of finding this golden creature is to take on as many Max Battles as they can.

That’s all there is to know about Dynamax Sableye in Pokemon Go. For more on the game, check out our guides to stay updated with the Spotlight Hour schedule and event calendar, as well as the upcoming Community Day.
