The Tiny Bird Pokemon, commonly known as Rookidee, is getting its Dynamax form in Pokemon Go during the Max Monday celebration. So, before going up against it, here’s a glimpse at its weaknesses.
Rookidee was added to the franchise in Gen 8 as part of the Galar Pokedex, and while it doesn’t look like much, it ended up being one of the most popular Pokemon in Sword & Shield, as its final stage – Corviknight – is an incredible Flying/Steel-type fighter.
Now, Rookidee is about to get its Dynamax form, so it’s no surprise players will go after it to add a Dynamax Corviknight to their teams. If you’re one of them, here’s all you need to know before challenging the blue bird.
Dynamax Rookidee weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Rookidee and its Dynamax form are pure Flying-type Pokemon, which means they are weak against Electric, Ice, and Rock-type attacks.
While this does make choosing a team fairly simple – as you have three types to focus on – there might be an even more reduced pool to pick from as no Rock-type Dynamax or Gigantamax creatures are available in Niantic’s game yet.
On the other hand, tiny Rookidee is resistant to Bug, Fighting, Grass, and Ground-type moves, so avoid using those as they won’t deal much damage at all.
Remember that only fellow Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon are eligible in Max Battles.
Dynamax Rookidee best counters
Even though Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon are still very new to the game, there are a few solid choices that can take Dynamax Rookidee down.
While Dynamax Cryogonal might be the most accessible choice (as it has appeared many times as a 3-Star Max Battle boss), the strongest options are Toxtricity and Lapras in their Gigantamax forms.
Remember that Gigantamax Pokemon are more powerful than their Dynamax counterparts.
It doesn’t matter which one of the six Pokemon from the table you pick; they will all be able to target Rookidee’s weaknesses without playing into any of its resistances.
How to get Rookidee in Pokemon Go
As of today, there are a few ways trainers can get a Rookidee in Pokemon Go:
- As a wild encounter
- As a 1-Star Max Battle boss (increased spawns during its time as the May 26 Max Monday headliner)
Previously, players could also get a regular Rookidee from 2km Eggs and as a reward from Special/Timed Research tasks.
Remember that starting May 19, 2025, players are no longer required to physically go to a Power Spot, as they can join Max Battles remotely using Remote Raid Passes.
To join Dynamax Rookidee’s battle, players must pay 250 Max Particles, which can be collected from visiting such Power Spots daily. If you fail to defeat the Max Battle boss, the MPs will be returned so you can try again.
It’s worth noting that these special creatures cannot be caught in their gigantic forms, so after defeating Dynamax Rookidee, trainers will have the chance to try and catch a regular Rookidee with the Dynamax ability.
How to evolve Rookidee into Corvisquire and Corviknight
Rookidee is part of a three-member family, which means a good amount of Candy will be required to register all of its forms in the Pokedex. Luckily, the process is very straightforward, as there are no special requirements or items.
To evolve Rookidee into Corvisquire, players will need to feed it 25 Candy. To turn Corvisquire into Corviknight, trainers will have to give it an extra 100 Candy.
Rookidee Candy
Players should take advantage of Rookidee taking over Max Battles during its time as the Max Monday headliner to challenge the tiny bird and farm Candy.
However, to do it faster, use Pinap Berries to increase the amount of Candy you receive per catch. Then, transfer the extra Rookidee to Professor Willow in exchange for a few more.
They can also set the Pokemon as their Buddy and take it for long walks, or trade some Rare Candy for more Rookidee Candy.
Dynamax Rookidee CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Dynamax Rookidee has during a Max battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it after defeating it. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.
Max Battle Raid boss CP | TBD |
CP range once captured | 344 – 380 |
Windy weather CP range | 430 – 476 |
Rookidee max CP (Level 50) | 753 |
Dynamax Rookidee stats & moves
As a pure Flying-type Pokemon, Rookidee has the following stats:
ATTACK | DEFENSE | STAMINA | CP |
---|---|---|---|
88 | 67 | 116 | 753 |
Fast Moves
- Peck (Flying/STAB)
- Air Slash (Flying/STAB)
- Sand Attack (Ground)
Charged Moves
- Sky Attack (Flying/STAB)
- Payback (Dark)
Can Dynamax Rookidee be Shiny?
No, Dynamax Rookidee cannot be Shiny in Pokemon Go, yet. Usually, when a Pokemon debuts in the game, it doesn’t do so alongside its Shiny, as Niantic saves this special version for another special event in the future.
Typically, Shinies debut a year after their regular versions, and since Rookidee was introduced during the Steeled Resolve event in January 2025, players will likely have to wait until 2026 to see Shiny Rookidee.
Once it does, trainers will be able to spot Shiny Rookidee very easily, as its usual blue feathers change to gold, and its yellow chest changes to light grey.
Subsequently, if a Shiny Rookidee evolves, both Shiny Corvisquire and Shiny Corviknight will get bodies with different tones of grey, making them look like they are made of steel.
