Overwatch 2 players aren’t happy with many hero Perks – so they’re making their own

One Overwatch fan created a new perk for Lifeweaver, highlighting the direction Blizzard may want to take with Hero Perks going forward.

Overwatch 2 introduced Hero Perks in Season 15, a new mechanic that allows heroes to play differently and unlock new levels of skill expression. Unfortunately, not all Perks were created equal in its initial iterations. While some characters like Tracer received impactful new skills, with the ability to blink up to six or more times at once, others like Lifeweaver or Sombra were left in the dust.

With the underwhelming nature of many Perks in the game, some fans have went ahead and created fanmade Perks. One viral Reddit thread highlighted a new Perk for the hero Lifeweaver, one that changes his gameplay in ways a good Perk should.

One fan improved Lifeweaver’s Perks

Lifeweaver is historically a weak hero, and unfortunately, his Perks have not done much to help his situation. While his Minor Perks are decent, allowing his Life Grip to cleanse allies or improving his survivability and dueling potential, his Major Perks have left the people who play him wanting.

One Reddit thread went viral for improving on one of his Major Perks. Lifeweaving adds 20 heal to Lifeweaver’s next Healing Blossom after using Rejuvenating Dash, which isn’t terribly impactful, especially for a Major Perk. One player reworked this ability through the Overwatch Workshop, improving on one of Lifeweaver’s main weaknesses and giving the Perk the impact it needs.

With this player’s change, the Lifeweaving Perk now changes his single-target heal and allows it to bounce to one ally, giving him AoE healing potential. Lifeweaver has a ton of healing, but it only works on a single target. Adding one extra AoE heal (at 50% efficacy) helps him be a more consistent main healer.

Players were a fan of this change, saying that they wish more Perks were like this one.

“I honestly wish more Perks were like this or changed abilities like the Orisa shield, or modified them like the Torb turret ones,” one user said. “Some of them are so ‘meh’ and are basically just number changes.”

Other players appreciated how this change switched up Lifeweaver’s playstyle without introducing any major drawbacks, which is one downside to many other heroes such as Sombra.

“At least you have a Perk that’s kind of beneficial,” said one player. “Sombra’s major Perks BOTH have severe drawbacks and I can see myself not picking any of them at all.”

Some players, including the OP, believe that Perks should be a way to cover up weaknesses for heroes.

“The idea spun from the fact that a lot of Perks seem to mitigate the weaknesses of heroes,” stated the OP. “Superbloom already helps [Lifeweaver] with his lack of damage, so I found [the] Lifeweaving Perk being 20+ healing seem a bit lacking, because Lifeweaver really doesn’t need MORE burst heal.”

Blizzard has already stated that they are willing to switch up some underwhelming Perks in the game. The devs already committed to adding at least one new perk for every hero later in 2025 as a result of some of their initial Perks missing the mark.

In the meantime, be sure to optimize your gameplay and pick the best Perks for your main to improve your chance at climbing.
