The 100 men vs 1 gorilla debate is a topic that has completely taken over Twitter over the past month or so, leaving everyone wondering who would truly triumph.
Although a wildlife expert weighed in and ultimately gave the win to humanity, Overwatch 2’s devs are determined to find out for themselves.
They’re officially doing an 100 Soldier 76s vs 1 Winston challenge to put an Overwatch spin on the hotly-debated topic, and while it won’t be anywhere close to giving us a real answer, it’s sure to be a spectacle.
But how are they even going to pull it off? Is it even possible to cram 101 characters into a single map?

Overwatch 2’s workshop tools are pretty robust, and people have done incredible things with the toolset that Blizzard has provided. But putting 101 players on one map is something that this game engine absolutely isn’t meant for.
It’s not clear how this is even going to work just yet. Will the Soldier players just be going in bare-handed and duking it out with Winston, or they going to be able to shoot him? Is Winston just going to be permanently in primal rage? There are a lot of questions on the table.
But whatever’s happening, we’ll know on May 6.
The only thing Overwatch 2 fans can hope for now is that this is an actual game mode and not just an on-stream exhibition. If the devs can figure out how to cram 100 Soldier 76s into a map that’s playable for the general public, people who are curious could band together and face one Winston together.
Either way, Overwatch 2 has been on a hot streak lately, with the new Stadium mode being a smash hit and Season 16 bringing the hype back to Blizzard’s hero shooter.
