Overwatch 2 finally nerfs Sojourn but she’s still absolutely broken

Blizzard finally nerfed Sojourn in the Overwatch 2 March 25 update, but while the changes are a step in the right direction, players aren’t convinced they’ll end her dominance.

Ever since the start of Season 15, which also introduced Perks for the first time, Sojourn has emerged as the best DPS hero in the entire game. This is partly due to her insane mobility, but also her high damage output, which makes her a force to be reckoned with.

This led to plenty of calls for her to be nerfed as she was appearing in virtually every match, particularly in Competitive. The devs finally answered the calls in the March 25 update, but the changes mentioned have done little to address the issue.

Sojourn finally nerfed but it’s nowhere near enough

Despite players hoping for a substantial nerf, only Sojourn’s Power Slide ability was affected by the patch. Its cooldown was increased by a second and it now only lasts one second instead of 1.2, giving her slightly less mobility to avoid hits and disorientate enemies.

However, her primary fire damage and hitscan range were left completely untouched, meaning she’s still just as formidable as she was before. Her secondary fire, which deals huge damage with a single headshot, was also unaffected.

Sojourn has been the go-to hero in Season 15.

While movement was definitely a sticking point before, the main concern among the community was that she could simply kill heroes too quickly, especially Support characters with less health. The combination of her automatic primary fire, which then charges up a laser-accurate bolt, melts squishier heroes in a matter of seconds.

But with no changes to her damage and only a small tweak to Power Slide, the main problem still remains — Sojourn has no real downside.

Following the update, plenty of players posted on social media calling out the lack of nerfs, with one Reddit user arguing:

“Sojourn nerfs are absolutely pathetic. 1 second longer cooldown on slide. You can literally slide twice with perks, that’s not gonna do anything. If you are going to nuke Mauga, you nuke Sojourn too. I’m sick of these slap on the wrist nerfs for clearly unhealthy heroes.”

Other fans were also left unhappy and called for more drastic changes. Some even suggested that if the devs are adamant about her kit remaining so strong, they should reduce her health to 225 to make her a “glass cannon.”

One thing’s for sure: these changes are unlikely to bring an end to the Sojourn meta that has dominated Overwatch 2 in recent weeks. Perhaps we’ll see even more nerfs in the next balancing update, which will likely drop with Season 16.
