Overwatch 2 experts weigh in on the best perks in the game


Overwatch 2’s new Hero Perks system has had some time to settle in with the community, and many skilled players are beginning to weigh in on what they believe to be the best perks.

Overwatch introduced a new major mechanic during Season 15 in Hero Perks, adding a new level of depth to the game by allowing players to level up heroes and choose new abilities for them mid-match. With each character getting four perks, there are bound to be some winners and losers.

While some characters have become highly dominant with the introduction of perks, there are also others who received niche perks that have held them back a bit. Now that Hero Perks have been in the game for some time, Overwatch pros and content creators are weighing in on the most effective perks for characters.

Most dominant perks in Overwatch Season 15

High-ranked and former pro players have begun to create tier lists for each perk in the game, and while this list is by no means definitive due to how situational some perks can be, there does seem to be a consensus amongst players for some of the most dominant perks.

Ana

Most players agree that Ana has some of the strongest perks in the game, with each of her perks viable in their own way. Overwatch experts Flats and Apply, however, both agreed that her Shrike perk is firmly S-tier, allowing her to nano both herself and an ally. Ana’s damage is nothing to sneeze at, and Ana can even use this perk as self-peel as the nano heal will also apply to herself.

“[Shrike is] going to be S-tier mainly because of the defensive abilities for it,” Apply said. “If you get dove you can pop your nano on yourself and call it a day.”

Ana’s other perks are nothing to sneeze at and are arguably S-tier as well. Having a bouncing grenade allows her anti-heal to have more coverage, and the extra damage can help confirm some kills. And while Groggy is more niche than her double nade, it better allows for her to defend against divers like Wrecking Ball and Doomfist where the slow is absolutely devastating.

Torbjorn

Another particularly dominant perk is Torbjorn’s. Torbjorn found himself as a surprisingly solid pick in a dive-heavy meta, and his perks empowering his turrets make him an even stronger anti-dive character. With Flats placing most of his perks in S-tier, Torbjorn’s dominance is also reflected in pro play with a high pick rate.

“Both of [Torbjorn’s perks] are insane, arguably some of the best perks in the game,” Flats stated.

Torbjorn’s Level 3 turret allows him to absolutely shred tanks and gives it extra durability, as activating Overload will also heal the turret. But taking Anchor Bolts also allows Torb to throw his turret in places extremely inconvenient for the enemy team to deal with, making it effective at diverting attention.

Both are excellent perks and have helped cement Torbjorn as a meta pick in pro play as a unique counter-pick.

Tracer

One of the more obvious winners of the patch is Tracer, who can receive up to six blinks with her Flashback perk, which restores all blink charges after Recall. This is strong for obvious reasons and helps contribute to her already absurd survivability.

“Flashback is arguably the best perk in the entire game,” Flats said. “Being able to get all of your blinks back is insane on Tracer…you can do ridiculous things having that many blinks.”

In fact, combined with Blink Packs, Tracer can get up to seven instant blinks, and maybe even more if Tracer uses her cooldowns intelligently. Tracer is a historically powerful character and was already hard to catch. Giving her this extra layer of mobility makes her even stronger.

The Overwatch team has stated that balance would be adjusted going forward. As the perks feel more like a first draft due to the freshness of the mechanic, some balance outliers are to be expected. If you want success while climbing, consider playing these characters and taking the aforementioned perks.
