Overwatch 2 devs reveal Stadium mode will take over a year to get every hero

Overwatch 2’s developers have released a roadmap in the wake of Stadium mode’s success, promising a ton of content for the base game but also a ton of additions to the new third-person mode as well.
While Stadium released with only 17 heroes, longtime Overwatch players are still enjoying it and view it as a refreshing take on the hero shooter formula. The ability to create your own build and completely change the way you play your hero has people hooked.
However, that added depth and suite of items and powers makes it difficult to take heroes out of the base game and slot them in. It’s going to take a long time to get the full roster of heroes.
In fact, going by the pace OW2’s developers set out, it’s going to take almost 2 years to get everyone in. And that’s assuming they never slow down.
Overwatch 2’s Stadium mode won’t be complete for years
Overwatch 2’s devs have released an entire Stadium roadmap that lays out the development schedule of the mode, providing some insight on how long it’ll take to get new content.
Here’s who we can expect so far and when they’ll be getting added to the mode:
- Season 16: Freja
- Season 17: Junkrat, Sigma, Zenyatta
- Season 18: Sojourn, Winston, Brigitte
With Freja arriving in the near future and Seasons will be getting 3 new characters from there, it’s fair to expect around 18 heroes a year give or take.
While it’s great for players who love it that they’re getting a consistent flow of content updates and characters to try out, the current pace is certainly going to be slow and steady.
There are 26 heroes missing currently, and, considering that new heroes will surely come out before every one of them gets into the mode, it’s fair to expect that it’ll take 9-10 Seasons minimum to get everyone in.
And, while this sounds like a long time to get the whole roster into the mode, Stadium also has a lot more moving parts. Balancing the mode is surely more difficult than base Overwatch, as is made clear by the devs releasing a hotfix patch on May 1 purely focused on adjusting the mode.
However, this roadmap shows they’re committed to supporting this new venture for the new future and giving Overwatch 2 players more ways than ever to enjoy the game.
