One of Netflix’s biggest anime shows of the year is dropping in April 2025

2025 is shaping up to be another great year for anime fans, and Netflix continues to contribute to the genre, with one of its biggest titles (based on a beloved video game) dropping in April.

In January alone, Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2, My Happy Marriage Season 2, and Sakamoto Days all made their debut on the streaming service.

Outside of Netflix, we’ve been treated to Solo Leveling Season 2, as well as Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack, and there’s plenty to look forward to, including new episodes of the One Piece anime and Dandadan Season 2.

In short, now is a great time to be into anime, with subgenres to suit all tastes. One area that’s been well established for some time is video game adaptations, with the likes of Pokémon and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners proving it’s a winning formula.

Devil May Cry anime premiering on Netflix in April 2025

Now, another iconic gaming franchise is stepping into the spotlight with its own Netflix adaptation: Devil May Cry. After years in development, the highly anticipated anime is set to premiere on April 3, 2025

Based on Capcom’s video game franchise of the same name, Devil May Cry has been a fan-favorite since its debut in 2001, praised for its fast-paced hack-and-slash combat, stylish protagonist Dante, and gothic horror aesthetic.

It’s spawned multiple sequels, spin-offs, and even an earlier anime adaptation in 2007. Now, Netflix is bringing it back in the new animated series.

Safe to say fans have been waiting a while, with showrunner Adi Shankar announcing the project back in 2018. But thankfully the wait is nearly over.

Shankar, best known for producing Netflix’s Castlevania series, told the streamer, “I’m honored that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the Devil May Cry franchise.

“[Writer] Alex Larsen and I love these characters, we are part of the fandom, and vow to surpass the exceptionally high bar we set for ourselves.”

Although plot details are being kept under wraps, the new TV show will follow demon hunter Dante as he battles supernatural forces and uncovers dark secrets tied to his past.

There will be eight episodes in the first season, all of which will drop at once – meaning you won’t have to wait for weekly drops. They’ll arrive at the usual time of 12am PT / 3am ET.

Power Ranger Johnny Yong Bosch is voicing Dante, while Banshee’s Hoon Lee portrays White Rabbit and horror movie star Scout Taylor-Compton takes on the character Lady.
