OM System has officially announced the OM-5 Mark II, the latest model in its compact Micro Four Thirds line-up, designed for enthusiasts and travel photographers who prioritise portability without sacrificing capability. Replacing the original OM-5, this new iteration retains its predecessor’s lightweight design but brings a series of significant internal upgrades that align it more closely with the brand’s higher-end offerings.
The standout improvement is the adoption of the TruePic X processor, the same chip used in the OM-1. This boost delivers faster image processing, more responsive autofocus performance, and enhanced noise handling in low-light scenarios. The camera continues to use a 20.4MP Live MOS sensor, which is now paired more effectively with the upgraded processor to produce sharper, more detailed images.
Another major enhancement is the refined 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, now rated up to 7.5 stops when used with compatible lenses. This makes the OM-5 Mark II even more effective for handheld shooting, especially in challenging lighting conditions or when capturing handheld video.
For content creators, the OM-5 Mark II offers improvements in video, now supporting uncropped 4K recording at up to 30fps and Full HD at up to 120fps. There’s also a new vertical video mode and improved USB streaming functionality, making it a versatile tool for vloggers and livestreamers.
Despite these upgrades, the OM-5 Mark II maintains its hallmark IP53-rated weather sealing and compact size, making it well suited for outdoor use. The camera also continues to support computational features such as Live ND, Focus Stacking, and HDR shooting, aimed at users seeking creative flexibility.
