OM System has officially unveiled the OM-3, a professional-grade Micro Four Thirds camera aimed at photographers who demand durability and high performance. As the successor to the OM-1, the OM-3 builds on the system’s strengths with a rugged, fully weather-sealed body and advanced computational photography features. It retains the compact size and portability that make Micro Four Thirds cameras popular while incorporating upgrades for enhanced autofocus, image processing, and video capabilities.
At the core of the OM-3 is a 20.4MP stacked BSI Live MOS sensor, paired with the TruePic X processor. This combination delivers high-speed performance, with continuous shooting speeds of up to 120 fps in electronic shutter mode. The camera’s AI-powered subject detection autofocus, which recognizes a wide range of subjects including birds, cars, and aircraft, is improved for faster and more reliable tracking.
One of the standout features of the OM-3 is its robust build. Designed to withstand harsh conditions, the camera boasts IP53-rated weather sealing, making it resistant to dust, splashes, and freezing temperatures down to -10°C. The camera also includes a high-resolution 5.76M-dot EVF, providing a clear and detailed view for composition.
For video shooters, the OM-3 offers 4K recording at up to 60p and 10-bit internal recording for greater post-production flexibility. The in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system provides up to 8.5 stops of compensation, making handheld shooting more stable. Additionally, the camera features an improved Live ND function, allowing photographers to simulate neutral density filters for long-exposure effects without physical filters.
The OM-3 is positioned as a serious tool for professionals and advanced enthusiasts who need a durable, high-performance system in a compact form factor. It maintains compatibility with OM System and legacy Olympus lenses, ensuring a versatile experience for existing Micro Four Thirds users.
