Oblivion Remastered fans claim Expert difficulty “needs to be patched ASAP”

Oblivion Remastered is finally here, bringing all the classic glitches, bugs, and fan favorite features under a stunning upgraded adventure. However, one feature is driving players mad, with many demanding that it “needs to be patched.”

Despite being one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming history, Oblivion Remastered was released to huge fanfare on April 22, with fans new and old looking to dive into the incredibly popular Elder Scrolls game to see if all its usual bugs, mixed-up recordings, and questionable Adoring Fan NPCs were still there. Thankfully, for the most part, they are, but there are also a few new issues with the adventure.

During the opening scenes, you can choose a difficulty, and many veterans have been selecting Expert. After all, if you know the game back to front and understand its most complicated features (like lockpicking), then why not give yourself a challenge? Well, for some, this challenge is far too broken and is more of an impossibility.

Oblivion Remastered players claim Expert difficulty is “broken”

Sharing their issue on the Oblivion Remastered Reddit page, hundreds of players claimed that Expert difficulty is just far too deadly, with many not even being able to survive the Rat battle in the tutorial without being almost one-hit.

“It’s broken,” claims one player, who explains that the game “uses Oblivion’s original 20 difficulties. For context, Skyrim’s legendary difficulty is x0.25 damage dealt and x3 damage taken. Oblivion Remaster’s Master difficulty is x0.2 damage dealt and x5 damage taken.” As such, your damage is considerably lower, while your damage taken is far higher than anything Skyrim could offer.

Others agreed, explaining that “on Expert, everything is a meat sponge that’s just not fun to play against. It’s so dumb that the only way to reasonably clear anything on Expert is to have a follower because they are also meat sponges that do proportional damage.”

While many are frustrated, the community are convinced it’s “not supposed to be like this” and that they “hope they (officially) patch this” issue. Especially since players just aren’t enjoying the seemingly impossible challenge.

Thankfully, until Bethesda potentially fixes the issue with Expert difficulty, one player revealed that “If you’re on PC, there is already a mod that makes it less insane of a jump in difficulty.” This mod, otherwise known as Difficulty Sliders Fixed, will sort the issue by allowing you to set your damage and damage taken yourself, making it more honed into your playstyle.
