Nioh 3 was officially announced at the June 4, 2025 PlayStation State of Play. Here’s everything we know about the third installment in the series, as well as how to play the free demo on PS5.
Nioh found success as a Souls-like series ever since the first game released in 2017. Now, nearly ten years later, a third title is on its way – and there’s a real-life historical Shogun involved.
On June 4, Koei Tecmo shocked fans with an announcement trailer for Nioh 3.
When is Nioh 3 coming out?
The June 4 Trailer promised a release date of early 2026, although no specific day was revealed.
Nioh 3 Samurai & Ninja Styles explained
Nioh 3 also features new combat styles, including a Ninja mode and Samurai style.
The Samurai style feels similar to previous Nioh titles, but introduces new actions that can enhance the power of martial arts with the “Arts Proficiency” action, or the blocking oncoming attacks at the last minute with the “Deflect” action.
The Ninja style promises to be faster than traditional Nioh gameplay, allowing players to perform aerial attacks and dodges. Of course, they also get access to Ninjutsu techniques like “Mist,” Nioh’s version of Naruto’s Shadow Clone Jutsu, and “Evade,” letting you avoid attacks in the nick of time.
“Fans will experience intense and deadly face-to-face confrontations by switching instantly and seamlessly from one combat style to another, or by choosing to continuously use only one style, depending on the enemies and the situation of the battlefield,” Koei Tecmo said in a press release.
Nioh 3 Alpha PlayStation Demo
Fans can get their hands on the game with a free demo on PlayStation 5 right now through June 18, 2025. Simply navigate to the PlayStation Store and download the demo from there.
The demo gives players an early look at the game thus far, including an in-development character creation system. Players will be able to give feedback after completing the demo, specifically about the new battle styles and open field exploration.
It’s worth playing the Demo while it’s available because, once complete, you’ll get a special helmet you can use in the full game when it comes out next year.
