Nikon partners with Red Bull as UK breaking competition returns

Nikon has announced its partnership with Red Bull BC One, the world’s leading breaking competition, as the UK championship makes its highly anticipated return to London next month. The global one-on-one competition will host the UK Cypher on Saturday, 21st September, and Sunday, 22nd September 2024, with Nikon proudly serving as Red Bull BC One’s ‘Official Camera Partner’ to bring the art of breakdancing into sharper focus.

This year’s UK Cypher is set to be a visual spectacle, showcasing the dynamic skills of the nation’s top 16 B-Boys and 8 B-Girls as they battle for a place in the World Finals. Nikon’s state-of-the-art cameras will be on hand to capture every flip, freeze, and footwork sequence in stunning detail, ensuring that the energy and movement of each performance are immortalised with precision.

As the ‘Official Camera Partner’ of Red Bull BC One, Nikon will provide attendees with the opportunity to experience the latest in photographic technology. At the event, ticket holders will have the chance to try out Nikon’s newest cameras and lenses, allowing them to capture all the breakdancing action in high definition. Additionally, Nikon will operate a dedicated photo wall where attendees can have their best moves captured in either video or image format, which can be instantly shared on social media.

The 2024 event will be hosted by BBC Radio 1XTRA presenter Fee Mak and legendary B-Boy Swifty, with B-Girl Roxy, a renowned Red Bull BC One World Final judge, leading the judging panel. This year’s competition will feature 2023 champion B-Boy Sheku, who returns to defend his title, adding to the excitement of the event.

The UK Cypher will kick off on September 21st at Leake Street Arches, where breakers from across the country will compete to reach the top 12 (comprising 8 B-Boys and 4 B-Girls). This will be followed by an exclusive afterparty at On Prem Venue Aures, featuring Breakdown The House, a unique dance battle that combines house dance and breaking styles.

The main event, the Red Bull BC One UK Finals, will take place on September 22nd at The Brewery, a historic venue that will set the stage for an electrifying showdown. The top 12 breakers will face off against 12 wildcard competitors in a bid to be crowned the UK B-Girl and B-Boy champions. The winners of the UK Finals will then represent the UK at the prestigious Red Bull BC One 2024 World Final in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on December 7, 2024.

Julian Harvie, Marketing Director of Nikon Northern Europe, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to join Red Bull BC One as their ‘Official Camera Partner’ for this exciting competition, helping to bring the colourful world of breaking to life through a Nikon lens. After an inspiring summer of sport, where breakdancing was brought to the world stage, we’re thrilled to be part of an event that celebrates such vibrant and culturally significant art forms. This event is the perfect platform to capture the raw energy and dynamism of these incredible athletes, and we look forward to sharing these extraordinary moments with the world, and continuing our mission to keep inspiring!”

With Nikon’s involvement, this year’s Red Bull BC One UK Cypher promises to be a memorable event that combines athletic prowess, artistic expression, and cutting-edge technology, highlighting the vibrancy of the breaking community and offering fans and participants alike an unforgettable experience.
