Nikon launches COOLPIX P1100 with 125x optical zoom

Nikon has officially unveiled the COOLPIX P1100, a compact digital camera boasting an extraordinary 125x optical zoom. Designed for photography enthusiasts who require extreme telephoto reach, the camera covers an equivalent focal range of 24–3000mm, making it ideal for wildlife, moon photography, and long-range shooting.
Building on the success of its predecessor, the COOLPIX P1000, the new P1100 introduces several refinements in usability and image stabilisation. Nikon’s Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) provides stabilisation equivalent to 4.0 stops, minimising blur and allowing for sharper handheld images even at extreme zoom levels. For those seeking additional reach, the Dynamic Fine Zoom function extends the zoom range to 250x, achieving a staggering 6000mm equivalent focal length.
The COOLPIX P1100 offers new creative features, including an enhanced bird-watching mode with a selectable autofocus area for improved subject tracking. A dedicated Moon mode makes lunar photography more accessible, while a new Fireworks mode ensures better long-exposure captures with reduced highlight clipping. The camera also supports Nikon’s NRW (RAW) format, giving users greater flexibility in postprocessing.

For video enthusiasts, the COOLPIX P1100 supports 4K UHD/30p recording as well as superlapse and time-lapse movie modes. The vari-angle 3.2-inch LCD allows for flexible shooting angles, while a clean HDMI output enables external recording. The camera also features a deep grip for better handling and an accessory shoe for compatibility with Nikon’s Speedlights and dot sights.

Remote shooting capabilities have been expanded with the optional ML-L7 Remote Control, which now allows users to assign functions to the Fn1 and Fn2 buttons. This addition enhances the camera’s usability for telephoto shooting, reducing camera shake and improving composition when using extreme focal lengths.
Dirk Jasper, Product Manager at Nikon Europe, stated, “Building on the success of the COOLPIX P1000, the COOLPIX P1100 offers an expanded 125x optical zoom and improved image stabilisation, supporting photographers to capture distant moments with enhanced clarity. Whether you’re photographing wildlife, the moon, or faraway landscapes, we are proud to offer the COOLPIX P1100 for photographers looking for reliable performance, flexibility, and the creative freedom to explore new frontiers in photography.”
