A new version of the Minecraft Movie is on its way to cinemas, and rather than trying to control fans, this screening intends to let everyone run wild.
A Minecraft Movie is well on its way to cracking the $1 billion mark at the box office, making it one of the biggest video game adaptations yet. Although the film may not be in the running for any Academy Awards next year, it’s nonetheless bringing in huge audiences for a number of reasons.
Chief among them is for its virality. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the infamous Chicken Jockey moment has caused all sorts of chaos, even seeing a live chicken brought into one cinema. Jack Black was brought out at one stage to try calm fans down as outbursts were getting a little too out of hand for some cinemas.
Now, there’s a new version hitting the big screen, and no, it’s not that unfinished version that spilled out online weeks prior. Instead, it’s a ‘party’ version that encourages fans to get as crazy as they like.
A Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition explained
Releasing in theaters on May 2, 2025, A Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition actively encourages audience participation. It’s a special screening of the movie that promotes shouting out quotes, singing songs, and more.
“You know the moments. You know the lines. You love the songs! Now it’s time to get loose, laugh out loud and belt out those lyrics like a true diamond-tier fan,” a press release reads.
For the time being, this Block Party re-release is mostly limited to North America, with only “select international markets” soon joining in on the fun.
This follows in the footsteps of Wicked’s ‘sing-along’ screenings from the tail end of 2024 that divided the audience and drew plenty of criticism at that time. Given the Minecraft audience is a much younger demographic, however, the reception could be much more positive this go around.
The Block Party screening could bring even more viral Chicken Jockey reactions.
The popular movie still has a few weeks to go in cinemas but already it’s proven such a hit that a sequel has been greenlit. In fact, we know it’ll involve a new character in a leading role.
