New Tony Hawk game ships with ‘disrespectful’ Guitar Hero reference & devs are removing it

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 shipped with a reference to Guitar Hero that some are deeming ‘disrespectful.’ Developers at Iron Galaxy have responded and confirmed they will be removing it in the next update.
Two decades on from their original release, THPS 3+4 are back in the spotlight thanks to a new remake from Iron Galaxy. While players can combo their way to high scores all over again, it’s not just the gameplay that’s drawing attention.
Cruising through any one of the game’s locations – both returning and new to the franchise – is a great way to soak up all the detail of the remake. However, one particular detail has caught fire for the wrong reasons.
On the Waterpark map, players have spotted a peculiar box sticking out of a trash can. After knocking over the bin, it reveals a cheeky reference to Activision’s old Guitar Hero series.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 mocking Guitar Hero?
For a bit of context, Neversoft is the now-defunct studio that worked on the Guitar Hero series spanning five titles, including 3, Metallica, World Tour, and others. Prior to that, they were best known as the original team behind the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series.
“Goes to show Iron Galaxy’s respect for Neversoft,” a Reddit user said while sharing an image of the Easter egg. While not exactly Guitar Hero, it’s a box that’s clearly meant to resemble it, and said box is found in the trash.
Others in the replies knocked the trash can over to reveal the full asset. Evidently referencing the fan-favorite rhythm game series, this one is called ‘Banjo Champion.’ Play through a “colossal collection of hits” with the included “wireless banjo controller,” the box reads.

For some, they took the placement of Neversoft’s prior work being dumped in the garbage as a sign of disrespect. As such, it wasn’t long before the new developers, Iron Galaxy, issued a statement.
“We have the utmost respect for anyone who makes games, we’re investigating how that got in there in the first place,” the studio said on Reddit. “Thank you to the community for bringing this to our attention, and we’ll be removing that from the environment art in the next update.”
Now, of course, it’s worth noting that not every player in the community was in agreement. For some, they viewed it as a “benign joke.”
“Keep it in please,” one player responded. “Tony Hawk games are meant to be edgy.”
