Netflix reportedly working on Blizzard series after fumbling OW & Diablo shows

Netflix is reportedly back to working with Blizzard to turn one of its franchises into a show or movie after the last attempt fell through.

Rumors of Netflix adapting Diablo, World of Warcraft and/or Overwatch into a series have been going on for ages with nothing ever coming to fruition.

In September 2024, journalist Jason Schreier revealed that Netflix had been developing series for all three of those franchises, but those were halted when Blizzard sued the streaming giant, claiming they poached former Blizz CFO Spencer Neumann away from the company.

However, according to fellow journalist Jez Corden, not all hope is lost. In fact, he says that Netflix is back to working with Blizzard.

Netflix is reportedly working on a new Blizzard series

During a stream with Rand Al Thor, Jez claimed that he’s heard exciting things about a new game series on the way.

“I’m not going to say what game it is, but there’s a Blizzard franchise that’s getting some kind of Netflix treatment,” he said.

It’s not clear if Netflix is reviving work on the series they had in development or starting from scratch with a different game.

The Overwatch 2 story has gone quiet ever since the cancelation of its PVE campaign following poor sales, making it a prime target for a Netflix adaptation if Blizzard wanted to find a way to continue the story of those iconic characters.

That said, if it is a different IP, there’s a good chance it could be StarCraft-related. A March report from Asia Today stated that several Korean companies were competing to develop new games based on StarCraft IP and secure global publishing rights.

Furthermore, Microsoft Head of Gaming Phil Spencer has expressed interest in reviving the dormant IP. A StarCraft tabletop game was announced for 2026 with board games set in the StarCraft universe coming in 2027.

It may be awhile still until anything is announced, but fans may want to keep their eyes on BlizzCon 2026 for a possible announcement.
