The Monster Hunter Wilds experience isn’t always smooth due to performance issues, but players are convinced that it’s all actually due to a typo in the config file.
Monster Hunter Wilds skyrocketed into one of the most played games on Steam shortly after its launch, beating some of the top titles, such as Counter-Strike 2, Marvel Rivals, and Dota 2, in terms of concurrent players.
Though it’s no doubt an impressive milestone, the game has also been getting mixed reviews, with poor optimization being the one issue many players have brought up.
In a surprising turn of events, one individual noticed an alleged issue in the game’s code, pointing out that this could be the reason for the game’s poor performance. As it turns out, a mere typo may be the cause of all this hassle.
Monster Hunter Wilds players claim fixing this typo makes the game run better
Players have been running into various performance issues since the game’s launch.
In a Steam forum, user BeepBoop first brought the topic to light by mentioning that they’ve found what appears to be a typo in the game’s config.ini file. Instead of “Resolution,” the word “Resoltuion” appeared in the file.
It’s unclear whether or not this is actually intended by the devs or if it’s simply just a typo. Regardless, the user claimed that fixing the misspelled word gave them a performance boost. Other players have also admitted that their game is now running better after trying out this method.
“Can confirm, textures have definitely been MUCH better for me. Last night, in the oil spill area, I barely had any of the rock textures fully loading in. Now, my memory usage has gone down in my settings, and staying on High textures has all of them loading in even if it’s delayed by about 2 secs,” one of them wrote.
A different user mentioned that correcting the word in the file has led to their FPS increasing by 20. “Until changing this, I had never touched 3-digit FPS, now I’m at 110, and it’s fairly stable, at least in the hub. Good eye, hilarious if this is part of a major problem by Capcom.”
That said, there are also some players who claimed this didn’t make a difference in their game. There’s no telling if it’s just a placebo effect, but if you’re looking into fixing it yourself, be warned that the original user also said they noticed their processor temperature rising after fixing this typo.
