MK1’s Sektor answers the question: What if Iron Man had a Fatality?

Mortal Kombat 1’s upcoming expansion Khaos Reigns will include a re-imagined Sektor, thanks to Fire God Liu Kang’s timeline meddling. She’s still a Lin Kuei devotee, and now very tight with Sub-Zero, but less of a classic cyborg and more of an armor-clad warrior. And as Sektor’s first gameplay trailer reveals, she’s basically Iron Man, except much more sadistic, as Mortal Kombat characters tend to be.

That Iron Man influence is particularly noticeable in Sektor’s first Fatality, in which she literally launches her opponent Ermac into outer space, freezing him, then rockets him back to Earth, where he burns to a crisp as he enters the atmosphere. Sektor and what remains of Ermac land with a crater-smashing thud as she lands.

If there’s any question that we’re dealing with an Iron Man-type here, this MCU-style in-helmet HUD shot from Sektor’s Fatality makes it explicitly clear where developer NetherRealm Studios is borrowing some of its ideas.

Tony Starking her enemies into a smoked paste isn’t the only finishing moves Sektor has. Her newly revealed Animality sees her transform into a rhinoceros, then gore her opponent with its giant horn. That’s a switch-up from Sektor’s original Animality in Mortal Kombat 3, in which the cyborg turned into a glowing bat and lopped off the head of his opponent. (Kabal, incidentally, turned into a rhinoceros skeleton in MK3.)

NetherRealm’s Khaos Reigns expansion comes to Mortal Kombat 1 on Sept. 24. That DLC will include Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot on day one. Three more characters — Scream’s Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, and Terminator 2’s T-1000 — will be released later.

The Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expansion costs $49.99 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The Nintendo Switch version costs $39.99.
