Minecraft movie director addresses viral Chicken Jockey reactions

A Minecraft Movie director Jared Hess has broken his silence on the viral, often chaotic Chicken Jockey reactions in cinemas around the globe. To the film’s creator, it’s all just a bit of fun as fans ‘make memories.’

Despite our review of the Minecraft movie, labelling it as a contender for the year’s worst film, audiences have turned up in droves to support the adaptation. The film has quickly smashed expectations at the box office and has even spawned the latest viral trend.

Unless you’ve been living under some bedrock, you’ve no doubt seen the Chicken Jockey trend across social media. The moment a baby Zombie drops onto a Chicken and Jack Black utters those now infamous words, crowds erupt in an explosion of popcorn, confetti, and so much more. At one screening, an actual chicken was brought in, sparking all sorts of concern online.

In some instances, cops have even been called as moviegoers have caused a little too much chaos in their screenings. But despite some going a bit too far, the film’s director has been thrilled to see all the viral moments.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Hess joked that his wife had been urging him to put his phone down as he’s been “staying up way too late” watching reactions since the film’s release. “It’s been way too fun,” he said.

“It’s weird when you’re having too much fun and the cops get called. It’s funny because I think it’s just literally cheering and throwing popcorn, which is so funny to me that cops are getting called for popcorn. It’s hilarious.”

“I’ve seen so many funny videos,” Hess continued. “It’s great, especially when people are climbing on their friends’ shoulders and standing up and cheering for those moments. I’m just glad people are making memories with their friends and families.”

Prior to the film’s release, Hess had a feeling the Chicken Jockey moment would go on to become something bigger. As it turns out, his son Elliot and his college friends had already been going around quoting the now-iconic moment.

Clearly striking a chord with audiences around the world, the first Minecraft movie is on its way to being a smash hit at the box office. As a result, a sequel has already been confirmed, meaning there could be plenty more Chicken Jockey moments to come on the big screen.
