Marvel Rivals dev promises Season 2 will finally address major PC issue

According to a Marvel Rivals developer, an upcoming update will fix the RAM usage issue that has plagued the PC version since launch.
Marvel Rivals took the world by storm upon its release, yet some players immediately encountered problems that hampered their experience.
The PC version, in particular, has been known to use an incredible amount of RAM, resulting in performance hiccups and crashes, especially for those with less than 32GB of RAM. However, even players with beefier rigs and more RAM on deck have reported troubles in this regard. And the Season 1 patch only exacerbated the issue for some.
Users found workarounds that help minimize the issue, but hopes remain high that developer NetEase will deploy a more permanent remedy.
Marvel Rivals update to solve memory consumption problems
In a PC Gamer sit-down during GDC 2025, Lead Technical Designer Weikang Ruan acknowledged the game’s optimization woes on PC. As such, the crew is working on a fix that will help decrease RAM usage.
Ruan told the outlet, “On PC, we realize that [optimization] is a big problem, especially for the memory consumption. So it may be that in Season 2, we will have an experimental check box in our launcher players can use to reduce memory [consumption] significantly.”
Season 2 remains on track for an April 11 start date, meaning the fix could go live in the coming weeks. Still, NetEase isn’t ready to commit to a firm due date for the RAM solution just yet.
Ruan continued, “It’s a very big problem, but it’s a lot of work to organize [a fix]. We cannot just release it in a small patch, we have to fully test it. But we realize the problem and we’re going to keep optimizing.”
Why Marvel Rivals consumes so much RAM has eluded players for months. Ruan pointed to Unreal Engine 5 as the culprit, saying, “It’s hard for all developers to use the engine and make it good. It’s a new engine for us. We have a lot of hard work [ahead] to optimize it.”
Notably, UE5 has represented the common denominator in plenty of games that have struggled with performance on PC and consoles. Stalker 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Black Myth: Wukong count as but a few examples.
