Ludwig addresses criticism after Mang0 drinking stream controversy

Ludwig Ahgren has finally addressed the criticism aimed at his ‘Beerio Kart’ event after Smash pro Mang0 got banned from Twitch over his actions while inebriated at the competition.

On June 21, Twitch star Ludwig hosted a ‘Beerio Kart’ event to celebrate the launch of Mario Kart World on the Switch 2, where players had to finish their drinks before completing a race or risk getting disqualified.

While several high-profile streamers were in attendance, Smash Bros player Mang0 ended up being the focus of the evening after getting drunk and harassing female content creators taking part in the festivities.

Mang0 quickly came under fire and was banned on Twitch as a result, even getting dropped from his esports organization, Cloud9. Since then, he has penned a couple of apologies on X, where he opened up about his struggles with alcohol.

“Think like 99 percent of my problems always stem from drinking,” he said. “I know it just looks like I’m trying to save face but I genuinely feel so awful about it… I will try and redeem myself over time.”

Ludwig has also come under scrutiny due to the incident, with netizens casting blame on him for allowing Mang0 to get as drunk as he did and not stepping in sooner.

Ludwig gives update on Mang0 after Twitch ban

Ludwig opened up about the situation in a July 1 Twitch stream, revealing that he’d recently spoken to Mang0, who asked him not to speak about the Beerio Kart ordeal.

“We talked a bit,” Ludwig said. “I have some thoughts and opinions I thought about speaking, but he asked me to not speak on it. I think that’s a fair request. He said, ‘I wanna take it on the chin.’”

The streamer went on to say that Mang0 has officially started day one of “no drinking” and is spending time with his family — but had words for critics who came after him out of concern for Mang0.

“There’s a perception of Mang0 that people have in their mind, but they don’t actually care about him,” he continued. “I don’t think they’ll be in his stream when he’s back to streaming. …it’s not a very genuine pursuit of the people who speak on Mang0’s behalf.

“I banned him from my events because I felt I had to, because my girlfriend and my girlfriend’s best friend, Maya, are in my room at 2 AM telling me they felt really uncomfortable at my event. I think a lot of people want me to take accountability. I said my piece on it. And it people don’t f**k with me, that’s totally chill.”

Ludwig also expressed confusion as to why Twitch banned Mang0 instead of him for hosting the event, and continued to stress Mang0’s desire that things be handled privately rather than in the public limelight.

This is the latest from Ludwig addressing his Beerio Kart stream. In June, Ludwig expressed dissatisfaction with how the internet reacted to the situation, saying he was “a bit sad how the peanut gallery works, because it’s always without any nuance.”
