LoL’s most dedicated Garen main has never made it out of Bronze

A League of Legends player in Europe has one of the most bizarre match histories in the world: They’ve played Garen almost solely for 10 years now, with them never managing to escape Bronze. They’re not here to rank up, just to have a good time.

League of Legends has a huge cast that caters to all skill levels, but Garen is almost inarguably the simplest character. No skillshots, built-in healing, the ability to out-trade almost every champion in the game if he’s able to get up close: He’s built to help players learn the game and move on to other characters.

However, one EU West player has decided that they don’t play League of Legends: They play Garen.

Boasting over 10 million mastery points as EU West’s highest mastery point player on the character, they’ve put literal thousands of hours on Garen.

LoL’s most dedicated Garen main is here for a good time

League of Legends is considered by most a competitive game. One of its main appeals is the ranked ladder and esports scene, with players vying to get a coveted world title and compete on the biggest stages in esports.

There are, however, those who just want to play casually and have fun. Maybe they want to unwind and play a few normal matches after work and play their favorite character.

One-tricks are fairly common in LoL, players who fall in love with one character’s kit so much that they opt not to play anyone else. But spending over 10,000 hours on one character is bizarre.

Enter nero2108, the highest mastery Garen player in EUW. One-trick accounts do exist, but they’d usually dodge any match where they don’t get their character. This player, however, just rolls with the punches and picks the Champion they want whenever they can.

Outside of a few matches, this LoL player has been maining Garen since 2016 and has rarely touched other champions or ranked.

They briefly tried to get a ranked run going in 2020, mainly playing Garen and only swapping off when he was picked or banned. Ultimately, they wound up hitting Iron 3 before dropping ranked and never touching it again. Before that, their peak was Bronze 2.

This person still plays almost daily, with the last time they played someone who wasn’t Garen being a Miss Fortune match on 9/25/2024. Before that, the last time they had picked a different champion was 2020. They’re dedicated.

As for their overall time played, it’s hard to say. Wasted on LoL says they’ve played for 11,070 hours, but the stats on this site can be inaccurate at times, especially when it comes to older seasons. Additionally, it only tracks back to 2018. nero2108’s been playing much longer than that.

With them having over 10 million mastery points, it’s safe to say that they’ve played for over 10,000 hours at bare minimum. That number could be much higher, though.

And, while it’s easy to look at someone like this and wonder how they’ve played so long without playing ranked and trying to improve, maybe nero2108 is the real winner here. If they’re having fun with League of Legends, that’s all that really matters.
