Leica SL3 price, specs, availability confirmed

Leica has introduced the SL3, its latest high-end camera aimed at professional photographers. At its heart is a 60MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor equipped with Triple Resolution Technology, allowing photographers to select from 60, 36, or 18 MP resolutions for their images.

The Leica SL3 introduces a new autofocus system that integrates phase detection and contrast detection with intelligent subject detection.

The new camera is also said to offer a dynamic range of up to 15 EV and an ISO range stretching from 50 to 100,000.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think the SL3 looks very smart

As part of the L-Mount Alliance, Leica has used the L-Mount standard, which means the SL3 is compatible with lenses from Sigma and Panasonic as well as Leica. There’s also in-body image stabilisation that’s said to offer up to 5EV shutter speed compensation.

The EyeRes 5.76-million-dot viewfinder features high-resolution glass for a clear, detailed view at up to 120 frames per second. Meanwhile, the 3.2-inch 2,332,800-dot touchscreen tilts up or down horizontally for added flexibility when shooting in landscape orientation.

The SL3 steps up its game in video production with support for up to 8K resolution and codecs such as H.265 and ProRes. There’s also a dedicated time code interface for synchronisation with other devices.

The menu is easy to understand and use

Leica has redesigned the SL3’s interface with a focus on user-friendliness and intuitive operation. It features a streamlined menu, ergonomic improvements, and enhanced connectivity options, including USB-C and wireless technologies.

The Leica SL3 is lighter and smaller than its predecessor, the Leica SL2. In addition, its IP54 certification guarantees performance in challenging weather conditions.
