Legendary’s Street Fighter movie casts Gen Z horror queen Callina Liang as Chun-Li

Legendary’s Street Fighter film is finally shaping up now that the first lady of fighting games, Chun-Li, has officially been cast.
First announced in April 2023, Street Fighter is gearing up for Round 2 on the silver screen as Capcom’s iconic fighting game IP has been picked up for adaptation by Legendary Pictures.
In the two years since then, ‘Talk to Me’ directors Danny and Michael Phillippou have been attached to and subsequently released from the project, with Bad Trip’s Kitao Sakurai now set to direct.
Since then, a number of different actors have been in talks to star in the fist-flinging film, including the likes of ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ heartthrob Noah Centineo as Ken and Bullet Train’s Andrew Koji as Ryu. Even names like Jason Momoa and Roman Reigns have reportedly been in the mix as potential stars.
Now, one of Street Fighter’s most famous figures has a new face in Callina Liang, who will officially play the part of high-kicking queen Chun-Li.
Chun-Li is the ultimate kung-fu specialist in the Street Fighter series.
Callina Liang cast as Chun-Li in Legendary’s Street Fighter film
As reported by Deadline on June 23, 2025, Liang is set to play Chun-Li in Legendary’s Street Fighter adaptation.
Liang is known for her roles in Apple TV+’s Foundation sci-fi series, psychological thriller Presence, and thriller Bad Genius.
The 24-year-old actress first started her career in the 2022 teen drama Tell Me Everything. She is based in London and speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. She also boasts a healthy following on TikTok, where she’s been showing off her Labubu collection lately.
Chun-Li is an Interpol agent who started her career as a law enforcement officer to get revenge for her father’s death after he was killed by Shadaloo leader M. Bison. She’s an extremely popular character even outside the Street Fighter universe, as seen by sales for her Fortnite skin in the game’s Item Shop.
The Street Fighter reboot’s plot is as yet unknown, and precious little else has been revealed about the movie. Even the game’s developers refused to speak about it when we got to interview them at last year’s Summer Game Fest, leaving fans in the dark until more is revealed.
