League of Legends is getting a live-action TV series set to film in 2025

Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism met with higher-ups at Riot Games, as well as a film crew, to plan out the filming of a 9-episode live-action TV series.

With the success of Arcane, there was conversation about where League of Legends would go next as a media property. Rioters have already confirmed that there are more TV shows planned.

The unexpected twist here, however, is that the next venture into LoL’s universe will be stepping out of the realm of animation and into live-action.

Vietnam’s government has met with Riot Games, confirming that they’re interested in hosting the production. While negotiations are still underway, they aim to begin filming in late 2025.

The meeting was made official in a Facebook post from Vietnam’s government, confirming that Minister Nguyen Van Hung had met with Riot Games and a film crew that was scouting locations.

There is still much negotiation to be done when it comes to the team abiding by Vietnam’s laws and regulations for environmental conservation and safety, but Riot has a very specific location in mind.

The team wants to film in Cát Bà, an archipelago of 367 islands that lies on Vietnam’s Southeastern coast. This makes a location of either Bilgewater or the Shadow Isles likely considering the scenic views and clear water in the area.

Riot’s got some big-name talent coming along as well, with Rose Lam acting as a producer on the project. Her work includes being a producer for The Last of Us TV series, one of the highest-rated video game adaptations of all time.

Again, there are no solid details about which locale this TV series will be based on within the League of Legends universe. But, if you were trying to film a show about pirates, an archipelago would be a good choice for Bilgewater.

Considering this show isn’t slated to start filming until late 2025, it probably won’t see the light of day for a long while. However, it shows that Riot is still committed to spending big to keep expanding the League of Legends universe.

Riot’s also working on 2XKO, a League of Legends fighting game that’s meant to bring iconic characters from the game to a new battleground.
