Josh Peck’s cameo in The Last of Us has a grim twist

Yes, that’s Josh Peck in the opening scene of The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 – but don’t expect to see him in the series again.
The fourth episode of The Last of Us’ second season follows Ellie and Dina on their first day in Seattle (“Seattle Day One” would have given players of the game a chill). It’s eventful; they hide from WLF troops, run from a huge horde of infected underground, and… they have sex.
At the start of the episode, we get a bit of backstory for one of the original game’s most terrifying characters: Isaac, the commander of the Wolves.
In this version of the story, Isaac served as a commanding officer in FEDRA until he decided to “join the fight” – and that decision comes with a big sacrifice.
What happens to Josh Peck in The Last of Us?
Josh Peck plays a FEDRA soldier who dies when Isaac throws a grenade into their vehicle and locks the door.
In fairness to Isaac… Peck plays a soldier who’s openly dismissive of Seattle’s general population, which is why Isaac doesn’t save him before he chucks the grenade.
The episode opens with him telling everyone about an incident where he caught three “voters” (which is what they call normal people, because they took away their right to vote) handing out pamphlets for some “religious crap” (they were mostly likely an early collective of Seraphites).
He called for backup, and the man who shows up doesn’t understand what disseminating means, believing the “voters” were “splooging” on the street. When one of the people spoke up, their head was smashed into the ground.
Isaac tells Peck he’s “thoughtless”, and then he goes outside to meet with Hanrahan, the leader of the Wolves. It becomes clear this was all coordinated, and after asking one of the soldiers to step outside, he throws a grenade into the vehicle and locks the door, killing everyone inside (or leaving them in such a horrific state they’ll never live to see what’s outside again).
Peck’s casting was only hinted at shortly before the episode’s release, with the actor posting a promotion for the series on TikTok and saying: “Oh and Episode 4, you’re in for a big surprise.”
