Many of us save our shopping for Black Friday, but during October Prime Day, we’re seeing some of the best deals of the year already. Our favorite is the 9th Generation Apple iPad, which is down to only $199 during the major sale. Apple tends to discount its iPads during Prime Day, but this discount is jaw-droppingly good—and it’s only good for a few more hours.

If you can find an iPad that’s 40% off, you’ve struck gold (or well… silver).
$199 at Amazon
Like many Apple products, older versions are just as good as the newest models. This iPad is a 9th Generation that released in 2021, but it’s only one version behind the latest model. It comes with 64GB of space, perfect for all of your favorite games and apps. My 64-year-old mother has this model and it’s able to easily handle her arsenal of games like Candy Crush, Hay Day, Township, and Block Blast.
Features of the Apple iPad 9th Generation
This iPad is not as powerful as the Apple iPad Pro, which can cost up to $2,300, but if you’re looking for a tablet that can connect to the internet and let you watch videos, play games, and respond to emails, the iPad 9th Generation will do the trick (and then some).
Here are some standout features of this model.
-
10.2-inch Retina display
-
A13 Bionic chip (a powerful processor in its core)
-
Wi-Fi connectivity (if you have an iPhone, you can text other iPhone users with your iPad, but you won’t be able to make calls or text non-iPhone users)
-
64GB of space
This is an immense amount of power packed into such a small device, and for a price point of just $199, it’s hard to walk away from this deal. This is the iPad to buy if you’ve been considering ditching your laptop or dreaming of a smart device with a bigger screen than your phone.
What’s the difference between the Apple iPad 9th Generation and Apple iPad 10th Generation?
During October Prime Day, both the 9th and 10th Generations of the Apple iPad are on sale. The 10th Generation is $50 off, putting it $100 more expensive than the 9th Generation. Is that price difference worth it? Not in my opinion.
The 10th Generation has a faster Bionic chip, but the A13 on the 9th Generation is ridiculously fast already. If you worked in technological infrastructures, you may notice the speed difference, but if you’re just looking for a tablet for leisurely use, you’d never be able to tell.
Aside from its faster core, the 10th Generation iPad comes in prettier colors, including bold shades of blue, pink, and yellow. But it’s hard for me to recommend that as a selling point, as you should never use your iPad (or your iPhone) without a case—and a case will just cover up that gorgeous color you spent an extra $100 on.
Other differences include screen size (the 10th Gen is slightly larger at 10.9 inches), camera quality (the 10th Gen is slightly better), touch ID (it’s on the bottom of the 9th Gen, but the top of the 10th), and the tablet’s ability to connect to various Apple accessories, like Pencils and keyboards.

The bottom line: The 9th Generation Apple iPad is a steal right now
Even if you’re intrigued by the 10th Generation Apple iPad, it’s hard to turn away from a $130 savings on the 9th Generation. This tablet is fast, powerful, and deliciously cheap today.
