Horse Armour Included!
We knew the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster was coming thanks to numerous leaks but it still managed to be a surprise to see it suddenly appear today. The remaster has been cosmetically redone in the Unreal Engine 5, so your visual and audio experience will be brand new. However it will still be powered by Bethesda’s Creation engine under the hood, so you can expect at least some of the jankiness of the original to make it through. They did scrap the old method of improving skills, it is supposedly a blend of the Oblivion and Skyrim methods so you shouldn’t have to bunny hop constantly to improve your stamina. The dialogue mini-game supposedly remains, for better or worse.
The requirements have changed a wee bit from the original. The 2006 release needed a massive 4.6GB of space, a 2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and a GPU with at least 128MB of VRAM. The remaster has swelled to 125GB of storage, and suggests at least 32GB RAM and an RTX 2080 or Radeon RX 6800XT to play. Regardless which version of the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster you grab, you will get The Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions, and the Fighter’s Stronghold, Mehrune’s Razor, and Wizard’s Tower additions, not to mention the divisive horse armour DLC. If you grab the fancy version you will mostly just get cosmetic rewards but there are also some unique quests which come with it as well.
If you are planning on grabbing it immediately, and why wouldn’t you, both Fanatical and Green Man Gaming are offering Steam keys at a 17% discount.
