Is the Thunderbolts streaming? How to watch new MCU movie

Thunderbolts has finally arrived, bringing together a team of Marvel antiheroes as they battle it out with a formidable foe. If you can’t wait for the MCU movie, we’ve put together all the details you’ll need, including when to expect it on streaming.

The new superhero movie is the comeback Marvel needed. As we said in our four-star review, “Thunderbolts marks the closest Marvel has come to recapturing the grounded, character-first storytelling of its earliest phase.”

It follows the titular team, led by Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), as they tackle an unexpected threat and their own inner demons. There’s also the introduction of Marvel icon Bob Reynolds, aka the Sentry / the Void.

With details about the Thunderbolts ending and post-credits scenes all over social media, you’ll no doubt want to watch the film soon to avoid spoilers. So, here’s what you need to know.

How to watch Thunderbolts now

Right now, the only way to watch Thunderbolts is at your local cinema. The Marvel movie was made exclusively available in UK theaters on May 1, 2025, and May 2 in the US.

Over its opening weekend, the final film of the MCU’s Phase Five will be competing with Ryan Coogler’s hit horror Sinners and the global phenomenon that is A Minecraft Movie.

Thunderbolts shouldn’t have too much trouble, as the new movie has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with a respective 88% and 95% Rotten Tomato score from critics and audiences.

If you’re in the US and eager to catch Marvel’s Thunderbolts on the big screen, you can book tickets through several major cinema chains and ticketing platforms, including Fandango, AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas, and Cinemark.

But if you want an even bigger screen, the film is also playing in IMAX – just head to the IMAX website to find your nearest showtimes.

Where to stream Thunderbolts

As an MCU movie, Thunderbolts will first head to Disney Plus for streaming

It was all the way back in 2009 when the Walt Disney Company announced that it had reached a deal to acquire Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion.

Ever since the House of Mouse’s streaming service Disney Plus launched in 2019, all of the new MCU titles head there once they leave cinemas.

Before it does, it’ll drop on VOD platforms such as Amazon Prime for renting or buying digitally. If you can wait or you want to give it a rewatch, Disney Plus may be the option for you.

When will Thunderbolts be on Disney Plus?

While there’s no confirmed release date just yet, MCU movies typically land on Disney+ around 90-100 days after their theatrical release. If Thunderbolts follows this same pattern, we can expect it to be on streaming sometime in August 2025

We can look at previous titles for a rough idea. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania all took three months before they arrived on the streaming service.

Deadpool and Wolverine took a little longer, with 109 days between its theatrical and streaming release date. Much of this comes down to box office performance, but if we’re putting our predicting caps on, we can expect it to be around August.

When will the Marvel movie be on digital?

If it follows the pattern of previous MCU titles, we can expect Thunderbolts’ digital release to be sometime in late June or early July 2025.

Before it hits Disney Plus, it’ll be made available on digital platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play, where you can either rent or purchase the movie for at-home viewing.

While an official digital release date hasn’t been confirmed, Marvel has typically followed a fairly consistent timeline. Most recent MCU films – including The Marvels and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – arrived on digital around two months after their theatrical debut.

If Thunderbolts sticks to that trend, it could be available to buy or rent around the same time after. However, if it performs especially well at the box office, Disney may opt to delay the home release slightly to keep it in theaters longer.

Either way, if you’re eager to add it to your collection or just don’t fancy seeing it at the cinema, digital platforms will be your first chance to see all the action from the comfort of your couch.
