Rexy is arguably the most iconic dinosaur in the Jurassic Park franchise, and considering her absence in Jurassic World Rebirth, fans are worried that she may be dead.
She first roared onto our screens in 1993, escaping from her enclosure and proceeding to terrorize Alan Frant and co. as they try to escape from Isla Nubar before they get chomped like Donald Gennaro on the toilet.
Rexy didn’t return until 2015’s Jurassic World, helping to fight the Indominus Rex alongside Blue and being left to roam the island… until Fallen Kingdom, where she chased off a group of mercenaries at the start of the film. She also survived the eruption of Mount Sibo, and in Jurassic World Dominion, she managed to defeat a Giganotosaurus (with the help of a Therizinosaurus), before taking a well-earned rest at the Biosyn sanctuary with two other Tyrannosaurs, Buck and Doe.
In short, she’s been through a lot. Understandably, after all this time, longtime fans of the franchise are curious about her whereabouts – and, more importantly, if she’s still alive.
Rexy is probably already dead in Jurassic World Rebirth
Sorry, but even though she doesn’t appear in the film, Rexy is most likely dead in Jurassic World Rebirth.
Firstly, Rebirth takes place in 2027, five years after the events of Dominion. The original Jurassic Park movie is set in 1993 – that’s a 34-year gap, which is a long time for a Tyrannosaurus rex. They had an average lifespan of around 30 years, so Rexy would be doing well to still be alive, especially considering all of the conflict she’s endured.
Secondly, Dominion director Colin Trevorrow already hinted that Rexy would be going to dino heaven.
“Worth noting the T. Rex had an average lifespan of 28 years, so our Rexy would be near the end of her life in Dominion,” he tweeted.
“Even at that age, she found the strength to rise up and avenge her own death, 65 million years later. Sometimes revenge takes time.”
Universal PicturesShe was already “nearing the end of her life” in Dominion, and Rebirth is a full five years later. Even if she’s been living a peaceful life in the sanctuary, it’s highly unlikely she’s still stomping around in full health.
That said… there’s a chance she’s still alive. In Fallen Kingdom, it’s said that dinosaurs living in captivity can live for a bit longer. And, to be clear, the T-rex in Rebirth is not Rexy – it’s a different island, so it’s another dinosaur entirely.
“If you were dinosaurs making a film, you wouldn’t say, ‘Now here comes a human, and then we’ve got another human here,’” director Gareth Edwards told Comic Book.
“You would say, ‘Here comes Robert De Niro, and there’s Javier Bardem.’ The original Jurassic Park T-rex is one actor. Now here’s another one.”
