If you’re still wandering around slapping bandages on your party with base-level Tints, you’re practically begging for a mid-boss beatdown in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.
Tints aren’t just cute little potions – they’re your frontline defense against the game’s unapologetic difficulty spikes and emotional trauma. And unless you enjoy watching your party crumple, you’ll want to upgrade those bad boys now. But hey, it’s not like the game tells you this outright.
So, here’s your cheat sheet to upgrading Tints in Clair Obscur.
How to upgrade Tints
Tints restore health, AP, or revive party members. To upgrade them, unlock the Curator, hoard Shape of Health, Energy, and Life materials, and speak to the Curator at camp.
Here’s a step by step breakdown:
Unlock the Curator
After defeating the Goblu boss in Flying Waters, you’ll return to camp and discover the Curator, chilling in a cave just right of the main campfire.
This fancy alchemist handles your Tint upgrades, as well as weapon upgrades, at least until you unlock Rest Point upgrades later in the game.
Get “Shape of…” materials
Each Tint needs two of its matching upgrade items:
- Healing Tint requires Shape of Health
- Energy Tint requires Shape of Energy
- Revive Tint requires Shape of Life
These aren’t lying around in gift boxes. You’ll need to solve environmental puzzle, explore off-path areas, and defeat side-bosses.
You can get a Shape of Health after defeating Goblu, a Shape of Energy under the staircases of the Manor, and a Shape of Life in the late-game.
Upgrade the Tints
- Talk to the Curator (or later, any Rest Point).
- Select “Upgrade Expedition Resources.”
- Hand over two “Shapes” to upgrade the Tint.
Upgraded Tints mean staying alive longer, hitting harder, and reviving faster. If you want to learn more about Clair Obscur Expedition 33, check out our guides on how to remove the damage cap, the best attributes, and the Demineur mine location.
