How to start Mizutsune quest in Monster Hunter Wilds

Mizutsune is the one monster that turns the battlefield into a soap-covered slip-and-slide of doom in Monster Hunter Wilds.
You’re here because you want to take down this bubbly menace, but let’s be real – Mizutsune isn’t your average punching bag. It dances, it dodges, and if you’re not careful, it will humiliate you in front of your entire hunting party.
But don’t worry – I’m here to make sure that doesn’t happen. Not because I’m particularly great, but because I’ve already danced with this monster and made a fool of myself just so you don’t have to.
How to unlock Mizutsune quest
First things first: you need to unlock the quest. Mizutsune was added in Title Update 1, so make sure you’ve installed that before heading out. Once you’re good to go, here’s what you need to do:
- Reach Hunter Rank 21. If you’re not there yet, keep grinding regular hunts until you hit the mark.
- Talk to Kanya. Kanya’s location in Monster Hunter Wilds is in the Scarlet Forest’s base camp, near the fishing pond. Have a chat with her to unlock the hunt.
If Kanya won’t give you the quest, you might need to complete “Life, In Microcosm” first. Just catch a fish at her location to clear this up.
If you’re feeling brave (or reckless), you can take on an even harder version at Hunter Rank 41. This time, you’ll need to talk to Alma instead.
Mizutsune weaknesses & strategy
Mizutsune is weak to Thunder, Dragon, and Ice. She’s highly resistant to water and fire, so avoid those two.
Her weak spot is her head, where she’ll particularly take damage against blundering and slashing weapons, like the Hammer and the Sword. My Insect Glaive never stood a chance here.

How to beat Mizutsune
Here are a few tips to bring this monster down:
- Target the head: Mizutsune’s head is its biggest weak spot.
- Gear up for water resistance: Its water-based attacks can ruin your day. Equip armor with high water resistance to survive longer.
- Bring cleanser items: Bubbleblight is annoying. Minor Bubbleblight boosts your evasion (neat), but Major Bubbleblight makes you slide uncontrollably (not neat). Carry Cleansers to avoid the latter.
- Watch the Bubbles: Not all bubbles are bad.
- Green bubbles heal you.
- Red bubbles give an attack boost.
- Pink bubbles deal damage and stagger you (avoid these).
With these tips in mind, you should be well on your way to taking Mizutsune down. If you want to learn more about quests added in the Title 1 update, like The Apple of Her Eye, we’ve got you covered.
