Marathon, Bungie’s next multiplayer game, is getting a closed Alpha Test ahead of launch. However, you’ll have to jump through a few hoops in order to sign up for it.
Bungie has been solely focused on Destiny for over a decade, with the iconic developer moving on from Halo only to make yet another huge gaming franchise in a completely different genre.
However, their next big bet sees the company reviving the progenitor to Halo, a humble shooter franchise called Marathon. It’s come a long way from what it was back in 1994, with the series being the same in name alone.
Here’s what you need to know if you want to get into the Closed Alpha for Bungie’s Marathon:

It’s not as simple as just signing up on Marathon’s website. First, you’ll have to join the game’s official Discord via this link.
From there, you’ll have to follow a few steps:
- Agree to the server’s rules and gain access to chat channels
- Type /alpha into any text chat
- Locate the private message in that channel that’s only visible to you and follow the link
- You’ll get a message in the email you provide if you’re chosen for the test
There are a few things to note here, however. At the time of writing, the Discord server is incredibly overloaded and it’s nigh impossible to get the bot to work.
However, there are a few ways you can make it easier for yourself. Go to the alpha_access channel to get a chat that’s a bit slower than the rest to avoid getting bombarded in the general noise chat, giving you a better shot of getting the bot to work when you prompt it.
If you see a window come up that says “Sending Command…” you won’t be able to get in. If you’re going to get the notification from the bot, it will be nearly instant, and the message will look like this:
This message makes it clear that the Alpha is US/Canada only at this time, though that may change in the future.
Additionally, the survey reveals that players who get into this Closed Alpha won’t be able to stream it, share videos, or discuss the contents of the game at all outside of the game’s private Discord channels. Any user violating this rule will be immediately removed from the test.
Click the link enclosed in this message, complete the survey that lets you choose between Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam as your platform, and you’re good to go. All you can do at that point is wait to hear whether or not you got in.
How long is the Marathon Closed Alpha?
Marathon’s Closed Alpha test will run from April 23 to May 4, Giving players a fairly large window to hop in and try the game out for themselves. Keys will be released ahead of the Alpha, but will also be released in waves to add more players in as the Alpha goes on.
