The best location for these ores is the Fractured Plains. It’s a rough area full of low-tier mining nodes and high-risk enemies. If you plan to mine here for any length of time, come ready to fight or at least run fast.

Using mining abilities helps a lot. The combination of Detect Ore + Opal can help you find nodes quickly. The Rocksplosion spell is especially effective, blasting multiple boulders at once to give you a better shot at finding Opal. At Level 16 Mining, unlock the Gem Prospector skill for an extra chance to snag gems like Opal.

How to use Opal

When you do find Opal, it’s worth the grind. You can use it at the Smithing Anvil to upgrade key weapons and gear like the Dragonfire Shield, Oak Shortbow, and Oak Longbow.

Once you hit Level 50, mining Opal becomes incredibly rare or stops dropping entirely. This is likely because the game prioritizes high-tier ores over Opal.
