How to get Opal in Runescape Dragonwilds

Opal is a glittery little headache in Runescape Dragonwilds. It’s the rare gem everyone’s chasing in the game, but worry not, as here’s exactly how you can get it.
Runescape Dragonwils invites players to get lost in the Ashenfall continent. However, they’ll have to survive in its uninviting lands by grinding resources to then fight the Dragon Queen.
Opal is one of those particular resources, and it’s key in every player’s journey. So, here’s how you can get it in this tough survival game, which will test your sanity (and patience) in every step.
How to get Opal
To start, you’ll want to mine the right ores. Opal drops at random while mining Stone, Tin, and Copper.
Next, make sure you’ve got the right tools. You’ll need at least a Bone Pickaxe to mine Tin and Copper, since weaker tools like the Stone Pickaxe can’t break through.
Best locations to mine Opal
The best location for these ores is the Fractured Plains. It’s a rough area full of low-tier mining nodes and high-risk enemies. If you plan to mine here for any length of time, come ready to fight or at least run fast.
Using mining abilities helps a lot. The combination of Detect Ore + Opal can help you find nodes quickly. The Rocksplosion spell is especially effective, blasting multiple boulders at once to give you a better shot at finding Opal. At Level 16 Mining, unlock the Gem Prospector skill for an extra chance to snag gems like Opal.
How to use Opal
When you do find Opal, it’s worth the grind. You can use it at the Smithing Anvil to upgrade key weapons and gear like the Dragonfire Shield, Oak Shortbow, and Oak Longbow.
Opal not dropping – Game bug
There’s a known bug affecting high-level miners.
Once you hit Level 50, mining Opal becomes incredibly rare or stops dropping entirely. This is likely because the game prioritizes high-tier ores over Opal.
The workaround is annoyingly simple: create a lower-level character and mine with that profile instead. If not, just wait until the bug is patched. Remember, Runescape Dragonwilds is still in early access.
That’s everything you need to know about Opal in Runescape Dragonwilds. If you want to know more about the game’s Skills and how to get Wild Anima, we’ve got you covered.
