How many people play Destiny 2? Player count tracker (March 2025)

Destiny 2 has witnessed its share of ups and downs in terms of player engagement, but how popular is it today, and what is its active player count in 2025?
The first installment, Destiny, launched in 2014 for PlayStation and Xbox, paving the way for the much-anticipated sequel, Destiny 2, which followed in 2017.
The release of The Final Shape saw a significant boost in player numbers but experienced a sharp drop in concurrent users throughout its following content drop, Episode Echoes. The release of Episode Revenant on October 11 saw these numbers recover slightly, only to drop again during Revenant Act 2.
Depending on numerous factors, peaks and troughs in player numbers are common in Destiny 2, but where do they currently stand? Here’s everything you need to know about how many people are still playing Destiny 2.
Updated March 2, 2025, with player count information following the release of Episode Heresy Act 1.
Destiny 2’s active population hit record lows on PC during Revenant Act 2.
Do we know Destiny 2’s active player count?
Destiny 2 saw an average daily player count of 39,398 over the last 30 days, a massive uptick from 18,542 in January 2025 and 20,929 recorded in December 2025, as tracked by Steam Charts. Player numbers for both months peaked at 36,488 and 36,896 respectively.
The release of Heresy Act 1 on February 4 and the subsequent positive reception has seen peak player numbers recover from the all-time lows recorded during Episode Revenant. The highest peak player count recorded in the last 30 days was 77,252, a substantial increase over January 2025’s 36,488 but still lower than October 2024’s 89,512.
For further comparison, the peak player count for June 2024 was 314,379, a humongous total compared to May when the figure was just 116,100. However, both of these would have been immediately before and after the release of The Final Shape.
Bungie’s looter shooter saw its all-time peak in February 2023 where it managed to attract an impressive 316,651 concurrent players. This is likely to remain the peak for some time, as mass layoffs at the developer in August continue to cloud the game’s future.
Keep in mind that these numbers only reflect the player count of Destiny 2’s PC version. With the looter shooter first debuting as a console exclusive back in 2014, it has a substantial console player base that is not represented by Steam Charts.
