Hollow Knight Silksong’s release date is very soon according to Steam

Hollow Knight Silksong’s appearance at the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct made people go crazy, with even a broad 2025 release date giving fans of the original game more hope than they’ve had in years.

However, 2025 also leaves a window of several months open for the game to eventually come out – if it doesn’t get delayed again, that is. People have been waiting for this game for a long time, enough for even a 3-second mention on a Nintendo Direct to set rumors off.

But eagle-eyed fans spotted something bizarre on Steam. Though Silksong’s release date isn’t finalized just yet, Steam’s storefront is consistently showing users that the release window is soon. Very soon.

With the game’s placement between other upcoming releases, a release date of April 29, 2025 is possible. That’d mean that a game that’s been in limbo for nearly a decade would be dropping almost completely out of nowhere.

Hollow Knight Silksong may release before April ends

Steam has various ways to see which games are coming out soon built into their store, one of which allows you to sort by tags that players assign to a game.

So, for instance, if someone’s looking for new Souls-like games, they can search by that tag and get the sort of game they’re looking for.

But one user perusing that tag noticed something strange: Hollow Knight Silksong was there.

This screenshot was taken by Dexerto to confirm its existence, and it’s easily replicable by looking up the tag. It’s also a bit of an anomaly, since the rest of the list is sorted chronologically without fail, with games that are slated for later release dates being much further down the line.

While this could be a bug with Steam, it could also mean that Silksong’s release date is set for April 29, and that it just hasn’t been pushed to the live version of the game’s storefront. This is the sort of thing that, if that date was set in stone, would get picked up by Steam’s backend despite nothing changing on the store page of the game itself.

“Surely it’s just a placeholder date, right?… RIGHT?” said one Redditor, who many agreed with.

“They didn’t announce Hollow Knight’s release date until 2 weeks beforehand. Only 5 days to go, people!” the OP replied.

What’s more, Redditors have spotted a similar trend on the Adventure and Story Rich tags, with the game having a very similar position on those lists as well.

Meanwhile, other users were joking about how they’d be locked in for Fart King if Silksong doesn’t drop.

So, while nothing is set in stone at this point, there’s a very real chance that Silksong gets dropped out of nowhere way sooner than anyone could have possibly expected.
