Here’s An Exclusive Look At Three New Magic: The Gathering – Edge Of Eternities Cards

Need some space from all of the Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy mania? Couldn’t be me, but for those of you who are ready to make the hyper jump to the trading card game’s next set, you’re in luck, because Edge of Eternities is almost here.
Starting on August 1, the trading card game is headed to a new, all-original plane for some transgalactic adventuring. Yes, in case my terrible puns didn’t give it away, Edge of Eternities is a space-focused set, and as such takes all of Magic’s enchanting elements and transports them to a galaxy far, far away (no, not that one) making for a high-fantasy space opera of sorts rather than a gritty sci-fi saga.
Earlier this week, Wizards of the Coast offered players an an extensive first look at some of the spells they’ll be slinging with the new set, as well as some truly gorgeous land cards and exciting reprints of cards from Magic’s past. With its fantastic art design, lore-packed story, and promise to give fans a glimpse into a new plane, it’s safe to say there is a lot of excitement around this set. And now, we here at GameSpot are even more excited, because we have three never-before-seen cards from the set to share with you.
First up is Inventors’ Lair, a legendary land card that rewards players with one life at the beginning of upkeep so long as they control three or more artifacts. This land can be tapped for one colorless mana, or sacrificed (after paying four additional mana) to allow its player to search their library for an artifact card. After finding their chosen artifact, that player must reveal it, put it into their hand, and shuffle their library. It’s important to note, however, that this ability can only be activated if a player already controls three or more artifacts.
If this card sounds a bit familiar, that’s because it’s actually part of Edge of Eternities’ Surreal Spaces Bonus Sheet, which features reprints of powerful lands from across Magic’s history. The original Inventors’ Fair debuted in 2016’s Kaladesh set, and has become a mainstay in artifact-heavy decks in multiple formats ever since.

Next, we have Interceptor Mechan, a 2/2 robot artifact creature with flying that can return an artifact or creature from a player’s graveyard to their hand when it enters the battlefield. However, the real appeal of Interceptor Mechan lies with its Void ability, which grants the robot a +1/+1 counter at a player’s end step if any permanent left the battlefield this turn. This is a particularly compelling card for folks who like to generate and burn through treasure tokens, or choose to fill their deck with aggressive instants and sorceries–kind of like the one we’re about to talk about.
Lastly, here’s a first look at Gravkill, an instant spell that allows players to exile any creature or Spacecraft on the battlefield. Exiling an opponent’s biggest threat is always beneficial, but this spell can also target a Spacecraft, a new subtype of Vehicle making its debut in Edge of Eternities. We’re already imagining a situation where an opponent finally gets their massive Spacecraft online, only for us to Gravkill it out of existence, and it’s going to feel great.
For even more Edge of Eternities coverage, be sure to check out our extensive preview of the set. In addition to listing several of the announced cards, we also offer more in-depth explanations of the set’s new mechanics–such as Warp, Void, and Station–and an overview of the set’s multiple Bonus Sheets.
