GTA 6’s delayed release date has been an easter egg for a while

GTA 6’s delayed release date has seemingly been hiding in plain sight all this time as Grand Theft Auto fans have finally found some clues.

On May 2, Rockstar Games finally delivered the news that plenty of Grand Theft Auto fans had been fearing as they confirmed that GTA 6 is going to be delayed until May 26, 2026.

As noted, the delay had been expected by some fans. Not only had Rockstar been silent about the highly anticipated game since releasing the first trailer at the end of 2023, but there had been reports that it had missed multiple internal deadlines.

The slip of May 2026 may have seemed longer than some were first anticipating – especially since Take-Two, Rockstar’s publishers, were “confident” of a 2025 release – but it appears as if the GTA devs may have left some clues along the way.

GTA 6 delayed release date was hinted at a while back

In the wake of the delay, some fans, including CYBER BOI, pointed out that the new release date lines up with the funeral of Bonnie and Clyde.

The game’s story is rumored to resemble the iconic love story, with Jason and Lucia, the two protagonists, taking up the mantel of the criminals.

“If not intentional, that’s an insane coincidence lol,” another fan said. “Definitely intentional,” another added.

Additionally, some pointed out that the song ‘Red’ from Red Dead Redemption 2 also points to May 26. Like FriendlyAaron1 did, if you add the line ‘seven months gone and seven years to go’ to the October 26, 2018 release of the game, it adds up to May 26, 2026.

“Some of these coincidences are genuinely unreal,” another fan commented. “If this was an accident, insane. If this was on purpose, insane,” added a further player.

Rockstar said that they need the extra time to “deliver at the level of quality” that fans “expect and deserve,” and that they “look forward to sharing more information” soon.
