Google Pixel 9 Pro XL teardown reveals dual-entry design and fiddly battery removal process

The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL got its teardown treatment from iFixit. The video linked below reveals the phone’s dual-entry design which allows you to tackle repairs from both the screen side and the phone’s back.

This means a cracked screen will be easier to remove than devices with a rear-only entry point though as the iFixit host demonstrates, you’ll still need to take extra caution with the new Pixel as its display layers are prone to separating which automatically kills the panel.

If you need to replace the battery or any other internal component, you can tackle the repair via the backside. The major downside in the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s case is that the battery is held in place by sliding pull tabs which make the removal process a real pain. The hard-to-remove battery and fragile display give the Pixel 9 Pro XL a 5/10 provisional repairability score.
