Google AI Mode goes global, India gets it first

Google announced its AI Mode search option back in March, but it was made available only in the US. Now, the company is also bringing AI Mode to India, which marks the start of the global rollout.

Unlike the AI Overviews, AI Mode allows for more advanced reasoning. The feature is powered by Gemini 2.5, and it leverages a fan-out technique that breaks your question into subtopics and issues multiple queries on your behalf. The response is then accompanied by links to the sources used to compile the said answer. You can always ask a follow-up question, of course.
AI Mode is also capable of handling 2-3x longer prompts compared to traditional search queries, and you can also use voice input. The multimodal nature of AI Mode allows you to even insert images into your search query, using Google Lens. The feature is available for both Android and iOS.
To search directly using AI Mode, you just have to tap on the new shortcut on the regular Google search bar, which is available on the web as well.
