Multiple sources claim that Dark Souls 3 is getting a remaster, and that it’s already deep in development. From what people have pieced together based on leaked and reported information, it’ll be coming in 2026.
Dark Souls took a while to catch on, but, once it did, it took the entire gaming industry by storm. It’s pretty hard to avoid comparisons to Dark Souls when it comes to any conversation about difficulty in games.
And, while the second game in the series didn’t have a fraction of DS1’s success, that third entry put the Souls series back on top and helped cement FromSoftware as one of the most beloved developers in the industry.
Multiple sources indicate that FromSoft is siding with the fans and skipping the second Souls game entirely, hopping straight to a remaster of Dark Souls 3.
Dark Souls 3 set to get 2026 remaster
Though it still holds up incredibly well today, Dark Souls 3 was originally released on March 24, 2016. If they wanted to celebrate the title’s 10th anniversary with a fresh remaster, the timing lines up.
Known FromSoft leaker Kurakasis claims that there’s an unannounced title in development at the studio, one that goes by the codename ‘FMC’. It’s far enough along in development to be almost guaranteed for a 2026 release according to their info.
This is being developed as a multi-platform title, making it impossible for this to be the Switch 2 exclusive Duskbloods. If Bloodborne has taught us anything, it’s that publishers tend to hold on to their FromSoft exclusive titles.
Unfortunately for Bloodborne fans, Dark Souls 3 is set to get a remaster first
And, while there’s still an outside chance this is an entirely new project, it’s not very likely considering FromSoft is full steam ahead on Duskbloods. Everything points to it being a remaster of an existing game, something that coincides with a Dark Souls 3 remaster leak dating back to 2024.
XboxEra’s Nick Baker claimed in a stream all the way back in November 2024 that this was coming, although information around the actual release date was sparse.
Between these two sources, both of which have a history of reliably guessing the announcement and release of upcoming titles, there’s a very good chance Dark Souls 3 will be brought into the modern era.
However, it remains to be seen how much of a remaster it is and whether or not it’ll have any new elements now that FromSoft have had a decade to refine their skills as a developer.
