Freja has quickly emerged as one of the most dominant heroes in Overwatch 2 Season 16, and she’s only going to get stronger very soon.
Alongside Stadium mode and hero bans, the Season 16 update also introduced Freja, a brand-new face on the game’s ever-growing roster. The DPS is a high-skill hero, with great mobility and high damage at both close and long range if you chain her abilities together.
She made a strong impression during her first play test, and that’s continued now that she’s arrived properly. But if you’re struggling to beat her in Quick Play or Competitive, your life is only going to get more difficult.
Freja is already OP in OW2 with massive buff still to come
Less than a week since Season 16 went live, Overwatch 2 players have already been taking to social media, claiming that Freja is very OP right now. “Why is no one talking about this? This character is disgusting,” said one fan in a Reddit post. “This is just Sojourn again.”
Plenty of others agreed, with many recounting occasions that high-skill players dominated lobbies with ease, thanks mainly to the bonus ult charge she gets when racking up kills.
“I was playing a game with one of my friends on Freja, he got ult so so so so often it was ridiculous,” said one reply. “Twice in one fight at one point. And the damage done was crazy.”
Of course, any hero is strong in the right hands, but there’s no doubt that Freja is particularly fierce, given how much damage she’s capable of doing and how tough she can be to hit when flying through the air.
There’s even more bad news though (or good news, depending on your perspective), she’s set to receive a buff very soon.
Following her trial in Season 15, Blizzard outlined a number of improvements to her kit, including the damage of her Bola Shot and the accuracy of the Revdraw Crossbow. These were supposed to go live in Season 16, but were nowhere to be found when the update went live.
The devs mentioned this on the “known issues” forum, saying:
“A previously announced balance change for Freja did not get applied in the previous hotfix update. This balance change will be applied in a future update coming soon.”
It hasn’t been confirmed exactly when this update will arrive, but if you thought that Freja was OP before, imagine what she’ll be like with a substantial damage buff.
