Fortnite’s Star Wars update proves more mini seasons are on their way

Fortnite took a break from its usual update schedule in Chapter 6 to bring a full Star Wars crossover, and there could be more of these “mini seasons” to come.
At this point, Fortnite is well known for its crossovers. What started out as skins and cosmetics has evolved into entire seasons focused on a single franchise, such as the Marvel seasons we’ve seen in the past.
However, Galactic Battle, which is a full Star Wars takeover, mixes up the formula. It’s technically classed as a “mini season,” not Chapter 6 Season 3 as we all expected, and there are likely even more to come.
Fortnite could be planning more mini seasons
Galactic Battle’s official title is Chapter 6: Mini Season 1, rather than continuing the numbering system used previously. The only other time this has happened was Season OG in Chapter 4, but that was still followed by Chapter 5 Season 1.
Based on this name, we could be getting another mini-season during this chapter, as the only reason to name it ‘Chapter 6: Mini Season 1’ is if a Mini Season 2 is coming down the line.
However, it could also be because Epic is bringing more mini seasons in future chapters and wants to establish the format.
It remains to be seen what these future smaller seasons are about, but so far, they’ve been reserved for some of Fortnite’s most high-profile events, such as the first Season OG and Star Wars.
So, it’s likely that this could be the new format when Epic wants to go all in on a single crossover idea without forcing the community to stick with it for months if they’re not fans of that franchise.
Given that Epic Games and Disney are more entwined than ever after the latter invested $1.5 billion to secure an equity stake in the former, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more Disney properties take over Fortnite in future mini seasons.
This is all speculation for now, though; all we know is that the bite-sized Star Wars season is just the beginning of what the devs have planned.
