Fortnite silently removes new movement mechanics and players aren’t happy
Fortnite players were left seething after Epic Games removed movement features added just two seasons ago.
In Chapter 6 Season 1, Epic introduced several parkour-inspired mechanics that dramatically changed movement. These included Ledge Jump, Wall Kick, Roll Landing, and Wall Scramble, all of which gave players new ways to scale walls, dodge damage, and reposition in combat.
These features were especially impactful in Zero Build mode, where you can’t place structures, and vertical movement became a game-changer.
But the excitement didn’t last long. Days after the release of Chapter 6 Season 3, Epic announced that it had disabled Wall Kick and Roll Landing in all Epic-made shooter modes, like Battle Royale and Reload, through X.
Fortnite’s movement features kicked to the curb
Though there must be a reason why Epic decided to do away with a mechanic they had freshly developed and released less than six months ago, they have chosen not to comment on it.
While these mechanics will remain in creator-made modes, they’ve vanished from the core gameplay. “Because f*** movement! Get your a*s around the map by cars and launchpads…and the occasional shockwave if you can find ‘em,” one player fumed.
Another said, “Put this back in Zero Build please!!! There were so many places you could mantle to because of the kick that you can’t without it.” The community wasn’t shy about expressing its frustration.
The new features had completely altered the flow of gameplay. Wall Kick allowed for quick repositioning, while Roll Landing made aggressive vertical moves safer by reducing fall damage and restoring stamina.
The removal of these moves has left many feeling that Fortnite’s movement options were a step backward. “RIP to my parkour career before it even began,” one player lamented.
Despite the movement controversy, Fortnite has bigger fish to fry. The new Star Wars collab is bringing a slew of skins to the battle pass, and there are also infinite ammo weapons to keep players occupied. Epic might have angered its player base, but there’s still plenty of fresh content to sink your teeth into.
