Fortnite players on PS5 & Xbox get new major feature before everyone else

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 is introducing a major update-related feature on PS5 and Xbox consoles that isn’t available elsewhere.
The start of every new season always brings a rush of excitement to Fortnite faithful; however, there’s one aspect of the experience that many dread – downloading and installing a new update.
Players eager to check out the latest content have no choice but to wait until the install process completes, which can take minutes for some and hours for others depending on internet speeds.
As such, the Fortnite community will be pleased to learn that Epic Games plans on drastically improving the process across PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
Fortnite adds pre-loading option for updates on PS5 and Xbox
As noted by Fortnite-dedicated account and leaker HYPEX, PS5 and Xbox Series users will be able to pre-load game updates starting with Chapter 6 Season 2.
This means players can download the February 21 patch several hours ahead of time, allowing them to jump straight into the new experience once the update officially arrives.
There’s no specific time for when pre-loading will become available, but HYPEX says the option should appear by the end of the day on February 20.
PS5 owners can activate the pre-loads by:
- Going into Settings
- Clicking on Saved Data and Game/App Settings
- Selecting Automatic Updates
- And then turning on Auto-Download and Auto-Install in Rest Mode
The process on Xbox requires players to:
- Go to My games & apps
- Scroll down to Manage
- And then select the Updates button
As of now, this type of functionality is not available to Fortnite users who play on PC and Nintendo Switch. It’s also not known if the pre-load feature will even migrate to those platforms.
The pre-load feature has arrived just as Fortnite prepares to unleash its next big seasonal update.
Season 2 will usher in Fortnite’s first crossover with Mortal Kombat, while also bringing back fan-favorite character Midas and introducing a new hero (or villain) who happens to be beefing with T-Pain.
