Fortnite’s latest update has introduced plenty of new Star Wars-themed skins and weapons to the game, alongside the legendary villain Darth Vader, who you can now have a conversation with thanks to AI.
If Fortnite is famous for one thing, it’s collaborations. Whether they’re teaming up with pop stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Marvel’s Avengers, Stranger Things, or even Rick and Morty, there’s always a collaboration on the horizon.
Well, the most recent is Star Wars, which has introduced the classic Darth Jar Jar Binks, various lightsabers, blasters, and tons of exciting skins. It’s also added Darth Vader himself, this time collaborating with AI service Gemini to let you speak with the Star Wars villain.
Fortnite players can now speak to Darth Vader using AI
As initially revealed by renowned leaker, HYPEX on X, players on Fortnite can now speak to Darth Vader using AI, asking him various questions, and even instructing him to react to your requests.
This is part of a collaboration between Fortnite, Google Gemini, and ElevenLabs, which brings AI to the battle royale. As such, you’ll now be able to speak to AI in Fortnite through both the Voice and Chat.
However, the current focus is on Darth Vader, whom you can now chat with in-game, allowing him to speak back and potentially react to your requests.
It’s worth noting that there are a few rules that follow the addition:
- Kids need parental permission
- You can’t talk about the following
- V-Bucks
- Sexual language & activities
- Harming of children and younglings
- Swear words
- Romantic language
- Gore
- Addiction
- Illegal activity
- Terrorism
- Hate speech
There’s no word on whether speaking to him about the above topics will lead to a ban, but it’s likely the AI will simply steer the conversation away from any inappropriate conversations.
How to speak to Darth Vader in Fortnite
To speak to Darth Vader in Fortnite, you’ll want to enable your voice chat to everywhere and find Darth Vader in your match. He’ll be at Vader Samurai’s Solitude, and if he’s still available then he’ll be walking around the location.
When you’ve found him, join the dark side by defeating him. Then, head through the portal, and he’ll be added to your team. Once he’s on your team, you can hold Y to talk to him. When you’re done speaking, press the same button to end the conversation.
Whether this is the only AI chatbot we get in Fortnite is yet to be seen, but for now, players across the world can ask Darth Vader anything they want, as long as it meets the guidelines.
